March is Women’s History Month. A time to celebrate the contributions women have made to society and recognize their achievements over the course of our history. As we honor all those who came before us and those who continue to pave the way for others, we have an opportunity to support our sisters, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, nieces, wives, friends, coworkers, leaders and doers.
Through Citizen Verizon, and our focus on human prosperity, we’re committed to reskilling and upskilling those most vulnerable in the future economy, ensuring prosperity through volunteerism, and inclusivity for both our employees and suppliers. Women’s History Month is the perfect opportunity to continue efforts through a rich selection of volunteer opportunities to help make a better world for women and girls. Here are just a few ways you can help take action:
Become a mentor and empower young girls globally.
The Tech4Girls E-Mentoring Programme is an innovative and rewarding opportunity for Verizon employees to contribute their skills as mobile industry professionals to coach and guide young women in the Caribbean and Kenya on their learning and professional journey. (VZMedia | VZMedia )
In Texas, you can Support the Girl Scouts of America by teaching STEM through camping (VZMedia). This hands-on STEM program is designed to help girls find their “inner girl power,” while playing a role in developing the next generation of leaders and changemakers.
Dress for Success
As mentioned in Up to Speed, work can change access. Take part in one of several Dress for Success Volunteer opportunities to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to thrive in work and in life. Beyond clothing, Dress for Success helps women create and review resumes and interview for jobs in this more virtual environment. (VZMedia).
When you reach forward, remember to also reach back and offer virtual career coaching to a jobseeker. (VZMedia) Volunteers will be able to work one-on-one or in a group with women to help with their resume, interview prep or online job search.
