Verizon Home Awareness

Home Motion detection takes  advantage of the Wi-Fi Signal from your  home router to provide safe  and secure motion detection  in your home when you aren’t there.  The Home Awareness service at no point identifies specific individuals.

Activate Motion detection for  Home Awareness to notify you when motion is detected in the home unexpectedly without intrusive cameras or dedicated sensors.

Review activity using historical motion data to track daily, weekly and monthly activity to help optimize your home.

1. Home Awareness is a feature offered for no charge to Fios customers with an eligible router Fios Router.
2. How do I know if my router is eligible  - Currently the Fios Router with CRSP firmware is the only router eligible for Home Awareness. You can check your router model in the My Verizon app.
3. How do I get a Fios router? You can order the Fios Router by calling 1.800.verizon (1.800.837.4966). Some markets may not offer the Fios Router anymore.
4. How do I get an  extender that is  eligible for Home Awareness? You can purchase the Fios Extender at the Verizon accessory store.

Customers that have Fios with an eligible Fios Router can add the Home Awareness service accessing their existing account on the  My Verizon page  and add Home Awareness under “Support Security and More”.

Home Awareness is managed only with the My Verizon app on your smartphone. Log in to the My Verizon app and then click on Internet. Once the internet dashboard has fully loaded you will see Home Awareness if you have enrolled.

Home awareness uses the IoT devices you paired with your router (and Fios extender, if applicable)  to detect disruptions in the  Wi-Fi frequencies. Those disruptions are translated into events, such as sensing movement in your home.

Home Awareness can be found in the Internet dashboard. Log in to the My Verizon app and then click on Internet. Once the internet dashboard has fully loaded you will see Home Awareness if you have enrolled.

There can be a delay of several seconds before activity shows, depending on the network’s congestion, traffic, and volume. If you’re unsure which device is unresponsive and not showing activity in your room-assignment screen, try walking slowly around your eligible IoT devices. Look for the activity circles to respond within a few seconds. Keep in mind, Home Awareness Works by creating coverage loops between devices paired to Home Awareness and the router (and extender, if applicable). The area between a paired device and the router (or extender) becomes the coverage loop. Activity occurring within a paired device’s  coverage area will be shown in the setup screen within the circle that corresponds to the IoT device you’ve selected for Home Awareness motion sensing.

There are two ways to solve this. First - if you want to completely stop notifications, go to the activity screen and toggle them off. If you still want notifications, but wish to reduce the amount, decrease the sensitivity in settings until you get the appropriate amount of notifications.

Some eligible devices may not show up in your device selection page because the router hasn't appropriately identified them as compatible with Home Awareness. Try connecting a different eligible device.

You are likely beyond the coverage area of the devices you have paired to Home Awareness. You can pair additional devices in the areas of your home where there is a coverage gap in activity monitoring to create more robust coverage. You can also relocate paired devices and choose which portions of your home are within the coverage area.

This is normal. Depending on the network’s congestion, traffic, and volume, it could take up to several seconds to load the Home Awareness screens.

Home Awareness works by creating a loop between IoT devices and the router or extender (if you have an eligible extender). Activity is detected when coverage loops are disrupted (such as when a person walks through a room that has an IoT device connected to Home Awareness). When a connected device is close to the router (or an eligible extender) or stacked over the router(or an eligible extender) on a different floor, then the device’s coverage loop can be very small and may result in minimal activity reported on your activity screen. If the connected devices are spread out evenly from the router (and an eligible extender)  and from each other you will have a more complete coverage area for activity monitoring and increase the likelihood your Home Awareness activity screen will show activity when the coverage loops of your connected devices are disrupted.

Check to see if your devices are unplugged or powered off.

Sensitivity level adjustments affect the amount of notifications you receive and your historical data. The live-activity screen shows all the activity in the coverage area, at the highest sensitivity level.

Your live-activity screen is set at the highest sensitivity level and will pick up any movement, such as ceiling fans and robotic vacuums.

Your app may have timed out. Go back to the internet dashboard, and then re-enter Home Awareness.

Give the app 30 seconds to a minute to load your router info. If after that time period the app still says the router is not available, then your router may be re-booting. If it is rebooting, the router will have a blinking white light. Give the router a couple of minutes to complete the rebooting process and try again.

Friendly names can not have special characters (such as  “,’,!, etc). Hyphens and Underscores can be used to separate words (ex: John-Echo). Please try to write a friendly name without special characters.

You can turn off Home Awareness by navigating to Settings in the Home Awareness section of the My Verizon app. Once there, you can turn off motion sensing so that the system stops detecting motion. If you don’t have access to your account or the My Verizon app, then you can unplug your router.  Unplugging your router will be disruptive to your home’s internet connection and may cause other unforeseeable, unintended consequences–for example, generating  a signal that alerts  your local law enforcement.  

Yes, for Home Awareness to work you must pair at least one eligible Internet of Things (IoT) devices you may already have in your home today, such as smart plugs (e.g. Amazon), Smart Speaker (Amazon, Google Home) or others.

No, in fact this technology works without the need for any intrusive cameras or additional sensors typically associated with  smart-home monitoring-detection systems.

No, Home Awareness will only work with certain Verizon Fios routers and extenders. Aftermarket hardware is not capable of enabling Home Awareness.

Check to make sure the IoT devices you have paired to Home Awareness are powered on and functioning. If they are functioning appropriately and Home Awareness is still not working, call 1.800.verizon (1.800.837.4966).

Unavailable data can happen because of the following reasons:

• The Home Awareness feature was turned off in the settings section of Home Awareness during the reporting period;

• The IoT devices you paired to the system are either turned off or not working during the reporting period; or

• The router and/ or your eligible Fios Extenders were not functioning during the reporting period.
