Device Trade-in Program Terms & Conditions

Verizon’s Device Trade-in Program offers current or new customers the opportunity to trade in one or multiple eligible device(s) to Verizon in exchange for trade-in credit. If you participate in the Device Trade-in Program, you agree to the following terms and conditions.

How is trade-in credit determined and applied?

Trade-in credit is determined based on the market value of your device(s) and/or the promo value specified in a new device promotion which requires a trade-in, as Verizon may offer from time to time.

Market value will be estimated based on the device information you provide at the time your trade-in order is created. Final value is confirmed after Verizon receives the device and validates make/model, memory, color, storage, carrier, and condition. Condition of the device takes into consideration whether the device turns on, has battery damage (i.e., swelling, leaking or too hot to touch), and has front or back screen cracks. If you are an instant credit-eligible customer, we apply this value towards your device transaction; if any trade-in credit remains, the balance will be applied as a one time account credit. If instant credit is not presented at the time of your trade-in order, trade-in credit may take 1 - 2 bill cycles if applied as an account credit or two (2) weeks if applied as a Verizon e-Gift card, depending on the payment options available to you. If the trade-in value is zero, you may still be able to recycle your device at a Verizon store.

Promo value is the amount specified in a new device promotion which requires a trade-in device, subject to Verizon receiving the trade-in device and validating that it satisfies all eligibility criteria for the applicable promotion. If you are eligible for trade-in credit based on promo value, the market value of your trade-in will be included in the promo value total and be applied in accordance with the applicable promo. Trade-in credit based on promo value will be applied within 1 - 2 bill cycles once you have satisfied all promotion requirements. In the event you are no longer eligible for trade-in credit based on promo value, you will still receive the market value for your trade-in, if any, less any promo value credit already applied.

Trade-in credit payment options available for your your trade-in will be presented at the time the trade-in order is created and may include the following, in our sole discretion:

  • A recurring bill credit on Verizon account for the number of months specified in the applicable promotion;
  • A one (1) time bill credit on Verizon account; or
  • A Verizon e-Gift card issued in the name of the person identified in the trade-in order submission and emailed to the address provided.

General Rules applicable to all Trade-ins

You will not be eligible to receive trade-in credit for your device if:

  • The make, model and/or condition of the shipped device doesn't match what you described when you completed your trade-in order.
  • Your trade-in device has an active balance under a device payment agreement with Verizon, unless you qualify for a promotional offer that accepts a device with a remaining balance.
  • Your return method was to ship, but you didn’t use the Verizon-provided label or shipping kit.
  • Your device was never received by Verizon.
  • Your device was received by Verizon more than thirty (30) days after you completed your trade-in order.
  • Your device is not Unlocked.
  • The battery of your device is damaged (typically indicated by swelling, leaking or it being too hot to touch), unless you qualify for a promotional offer that accepts a device in any condition.
  • Your device is a 4G prepaid phone that has not been activated and had at least one (1) monthly payment of Verizon service.
  • Your device is a 3G prepaid phone that has not been active on Verizon service for at least six (6) months.
  • Verizon determines that your device was reported as lost or stolen, purchased with government funds, or constitutes government property.

Special Rules applicable to Trade-ins as part of a Promotional Offer

To qualify for a device promotion that requires a trade-in, you must satisfy all eligibility criteria and terms and conditions of the offer. Certain promotions for existing customers require that the trade-in device must have been active on your Verizon mobile account (any line) for the past 60 consecutive days prior to the trade-in to qualify. If you claim a trade-in promotion for a device that is not eligible, we'll give you the market value of the device, excluding the promotion.

Trade-in credit based on promo value is subject to reversal if you no longer satisfy all requirements of the promotional offer. Below are some examples of why you may no longer qualify for your promotional offer:

  • Not maintaining active postpaid Verizon service on your new device for a minimum number of months;
  • Changing to an ineligible Verizon plan;
  • Returning or exchanging the device that was required to be eligible for the promo value;
  • Paying off your device payment agreement early; or
  • Transferring your number to another Verizon account.

Preparing your Device for Trade-in

It's your responsibility, before you relinquish your device to Verizon, to:

  • Delete all personal info and data, including pictures ("Content");
  • Remove and retain all accessories, such as memory or SIM cards ("Cards");
  • "Unlock" your device by disabling/turning off all password-protected security features (e.g., Find My iPhone or Kill Switch); and
  • Remove a damaged battery (to the extent it is removable) and dispose of it properly.

If you do not delete your Content or remove the Cards when you submit your device to Verizon, the Cards will not be returned to you and any Content cannot be recovered. Once you relinquish your device to Verizon, the device will not be returned to you.
