Moca Ethernet Adapter

The MoCA Ethernet Adapter (MEA) brings Ethernet wired performance to your entertainment center and other selected locations, supporting HD video, online gaming, and high-speed networking. The device connects to your existing coaxial network and provides for up to four Ethernet ports with the reliability and performance of a wired connection.

The MoCA Ethernet Adapter leverages MoCA technology. MoCA, which stands for "Multimedia over Coax Alliance", delivers a high-speed Ethernet connection, but delivers it using your existing coaxial cable (the wire you use to receive cable TV) to any room in your home that has a coaxial outlet.

This means you can connect a device in the home theater, even bring an awesome gaming experience to the basement, without having to run Ethernet cable all over the house or struggle with  dead zones or spotty signal strength.

You only need to connect one MoCA Ethernet Adapter to the coaxial network in order to provide for high speed Ethernet connectivity. The device (your router) feeding the broadband service to the coaxial network will dictate what MoCA protocol is used by your home coaxial network. The MoCA Ethernet Adapter is capable of supporting Bonded MoCA 2.5, and is also backward compatible to support earlier MoCA protocols (non-bonded MoCA 2.0, 1.1, and 1.0). This means that the MoCA Ethernet Adapter will adapt to any of these MoCA protocols supported by your home network and still take advantage of your coaxial network without necessarily having to upgrade existing devices.

With four Ethernet ports, the MoCA Ethernet Adapter ensures more wired connections for the devices in the home entertainment center, home office, or other high-density locations. Connect your HD television, streaming media device, gaming console, and more. Each Ethernet port supports 10/100/1000 Base T Ethernet LAN.

Best performance is achieved when all MoCA connected devices support the MoCA 2.5 standard with no other LAN device traffic (MoCA /Ethernet/ Wi-Fi) or interference present.  While MoCA is less prone to interference than Wi-Fi, bandwidth is shared by all the MoCA devices connecting to the same network.  If you are connecting an older device, it likely will not support the MoCA 2.5 standard, and could slow your performance overall. 

Example: When a MoCA connected Set-Top-Box (STB) is powered on, it communicates with backend network devices to refresh content, obtain updates and present the customers with streaming data. While this data transfer is occurring on the STB, it's using a shared MoCA connection with other devices, and max throughput on other devices may be slower than normal.

A MoCA Ethernet Adapter is considered as a node on the home coaxial network and the MoCA network can support up to 16 nodes (includes network connection / router.) To determine how many devices are on the home coaxial network refer to your Router’s settings page.

This MoCA Ethernet Adapter is designed specifically for homes wired with coaxial cable and is compatible with virtually any device that has an Ethernet port, including Gaming consoles, streaming media devices, computers and more. It does not support satellite TV devices or home networks based off of satellite TV.

The MoCA Ethernet Adapter includes TR-069 support, giving Verizon the ability to remotely manage and troubleshoot the adapter to ensure a flawless customer experience.

If you are experiencing performance/throughput issues with connection to your MoCA Ethernet Adapter, the following should be check:

• Run speeds test of incoming broadband service (router or modem) to assure that broadband service is healthy
• Check for faulty/outdated coaxial splitters and connections within your coaxial network that may be restricting speeds
• Check that other devices connected to your coaxial network are not hoarding available bandwidth.
