Switched E-Line Services

Next-level Ethernet Services for next-level organizations

It can be a challenge for many businesses to keep everyone on the same page and in sync when they’re spread across multiple locations, but our Switched Ethernet services including Transparent LAN Services (TLS) and Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) can help make it happen. Simplify your customer’s infrastructure and leave room for growth by adding Switched Ethernet services. Our Switched E-Line can be added seamlessly to your customers’ architecture as backup, or as a more reliable way to help them communicate better wherever they do business. Link multiple locations, remote sites, data centers and corporate LANs, wherever they may be, for high-speed, high-capacity point-to-point or point-to-multipoint connectivity. This is how legacy technologies can seamlessly interconnect with advanced protocols, dynamic bandwidth and monitoring tools. Your customers will have the security, speed and scalability they need to deliver apps and data across their business.

Offer your customers lower costs for data communications using Verizon’s Ethernet.

Switched E-Line gives you the opportunity to offer your customers lower costs for data communications at native Ethernet speeds between sites within many Verizon metropolitan service areas. Switched E-Line is available in two service types: Ethernet Multipoint Service (EMS) and Ethernet Relay Service (ERS) with multiple Class of Service options.

Features and benefits

  • Cost-effective service for implementing Wide Area Network (WAN) or Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
  • Verizon's unmatched fiber footprint within service areas simplifies connecting widely separated customer locations
  • Offers greater scalability than private line services because the service can be updated in granular bandwidth increments from 1Mbps up to 10Gbps
  • Full range of port options: 10Mbps, 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 10Gbps, and 100Gbps (where available)
  • Flexibility to support any number of sites and configurations
  • Native Ethernet handoff (no protocol conversion required)
  • Virtual LAN (VLAN) assignments per customer provides high security while taking advantage of the cost savings of a shared network
  • Class of Service (CoS) choices allow you to prioritize traffic for voice and data applications
  • SLA’s provide confidence that Verizon network will meet key requirements
  • 24x7 network monitoring to maintain high reliability and customer satisfaction

Ethernet Multipoint Service

Ethernet Multipoint Service (EMS aka E-LAN) provides fully meshed, any-to-any connectivity, making it ideal for LAN to LAN networking. It is configured by connecting UNIs with one multipoint to multipoint Ethernet Virtual Circuit (EVC) or VLAN and provides full port speed with two Class of Service options: standard and real time.

  • Ideal for Multipoint-to-Multipoint applications such as intra-company voice and LAN to LAN data
  • Offers simple, any to any connectivity
  • Transparent to customer VLAN’s and Layer 2 control protocols
  • Available with Class of Service Option to support packet voice applications over the multipoint to multipoint service

Ethernet Relay Service

Ethernet Relay Service (ERS aka EVPL) utilizes point-to-point and multipoint-to-multipoint EVC to define site-to-site or site-to-multiple-site connections. ERS can support multiple EVC's enabling a hub and spoke configuration as well as the interconnection of multiple sites, in conjunction with a wide variety of EVC bandwidth options.  This enables incremental bandwidth scaling to meet your customers growing network requirements.

  • Point-to-Point, EVC’s coupled with the ability to mix with multipoint-to-multipoint EVCs offer greater flexibility
  • Supports one or more EVC’s per UNI depending on the UNI service configuration
  • With multiple class of service EVC options, ERS is ideal for voice, video and real time data applications

User to Network (UNI) / Network to Network (NNI) Interfaces

  • Switched E-Line UNI Port with Access Line: Available as 10Mbps, 100Mbps, 1Gbps, or 10Gps (10Gbps available for ERS-Premier only).
  • E-NNI Port Only: Available as 1Gbps or 10Gps.
  • E-NNI Port with Access Line: Available as 1Gbps, 10Gbps or 100Gbps (where available).

Ethernet Virtual Connections (EVC)

  • Ethernet Relay Service (ERS) EVC’s are scalable offering multiple EVC speeds to support customer requirements. ERS supports three Class of Service options: Basic, Priority Data and Real Time.
  • Ideal for Multipoint-to-Multipoint applications such as intra-company voice and LAN to LAN data.
  • Real Time: designed for packet voice, video and other applications requiring tight performance for frame delay, frame jitter and frame delivery performance.
  • Priority Data: designed for data applications requiring frame delivery performance.
  • Basic: designed for data applications that do not require performance and where cost per Mbps is the key requirement.

Other functionality/features

  • Tunnel Access Service: allows ERS customers to preserve their VLAN tag (both the VLAN ID and the priority) across the Switched E-Line network.
  • Ping the Network Interface Device (NID): network testing feature for Switched E-Line that allows Customers to provide an IP address and subnet mask that will be configured on Verizon's NID at an end user location.
  • VLAN Translation: provides customers with the power to specify their own unique Ethernet Virtual Circuit (EVC) Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) ID. (Alternately, customers can choose to use a Verizon-issued VLAN ID). This enhancement provides greater flexibility as it will allow customers to pre-configure their premise equipment even before an EVC is ordered/provisioned and avoid potential VLAN conflicts.
  • Protected UNI Port with Access Line: Customers can choose to have their 10Mbps, 100Mbps, or 1Gbps User to Network interface (UNI) provisioned over a diverse or non-diverse Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) system. Customers thereby receive the power and flexibility of Verizon's Switched E-Line service combined with the redundancy and survivability of a SONET infrastructure.
