Verizon 5G Edge with AWS Outposts can help factories improve quality assurance, automate supply chains and boost safety.
5G Edge with AWS Outposts delivers an innovative private mobile edge computing (MEC) architecture that enables the development and delivery of large-scale, latency-sensitive applications. It lets manufacturers use AWS services to build and deploy manufacturing process control systems and applications that need to run close to factory floor equipment, and then integrate those on-premises applications with AWS Regions services for centralized operations.
Discover how the evolution of 5G has the potential to empower innovative advances across a broad spectrum of industries.
Verizon 5G Edge with AWS Outposts is designed to help enable the development of large-scale, latency-sensitive applications.

Private MEC is a site-specific solution that can be used where a private onsite 5G or LTE wireless network has been installed for coverage. This allows it to be implemented in almost any location as it is not reliant on public wireless coverage. It provides onsite compute and storage hardware in an “as a service” model. The close proximity of the wireless network and compute resources provide low latency apps that require it. It also provides enhanced security, since data can be stored locally on premises. Private MEC deployments are typically used for IoT deployments, such as cameras, sensors and automated guided vehicles (AGVs), which are usually fixed within the confines of the private network.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 200 fully featured services from data centers globally. Millions of customers—including the fastest-growing startups, largest enterprises, and leading government agencies—are using AWS to lower costs, become more agile, and innovate faster.
Verizon 5G Edge with AWS Outposts combines on-premises compute and storage hardware to support a set of devices or sensors enabling applications through private/local network communication. By co-locating network, compute and storage, this private MEC solution enables services to run even closer to endpoints, greatly reducing latency and speeding end-to-end processing. By making the 5G Edge platform available, we can unlock new business and consumer use cases that were previously impossible due to technology limitations. 5G Edge should eventually support applications that utilize real-time data, low latency, high throughput and massive numbers of connected devices and simultaneous users.
Additionally, combining the capabilities of these two industry-leading brands into a common platform improves our ability to provide customers with world-class experiences and services.
5G Edge with AWS Outposts, a fully managed solution from Verizon, offers the same AWS infrastructure, AWS services, APIs and tools to virtually any datacenter, co-location space or on-premises facility for a truly consistent hybrid experience. AWS compute, storage, database and other services can run locally on Outposts. With 5G Edge with AWS Outposts, you can support workloads that require low latency access to on-premises systems, local data processing, data residency and migration of applications with local system interdependencies. You can also access the full range of AWS services available in the Region to build, manage and scale your on-premises applications using familiar AWS services and tools.
