V Team, we’re officially just TWO days away from the start of summer and Up To Speed is here for it. Join host Jen Marin as we:

🛜 The surfing just got even better in these favorite summer cities [0:22]

Are you planning a trip to perennial summer hot spots Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach, South Carolina? Or maybe you’re going to G-T-L at the Jersey Shore? If so, chances are that your must-have for this beach season isn’t a summer read or the latest beach fashion. Chances are, you’re bringing your smartphone.

And we have you covered because today we announced network upgrades that will address the influx of summer vacationers in these areas.

(New) Jersey Shore: Sea Girt, Lavallette, Seaside Park, and Ortley Beach, with additional network upgrades expected in Brick and Asbury Park.

South Carolina: Upgrades will improve coverage at Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head.

Why it matters: It not only means that you’ll be able to work from the beach, listen to music, stay current on social media and connect with friends. It also means improvements that support public safety and at local businesses to keep you safe and making the most of your beach days.

🙌 Celebrating and reflecting on Juneteenth [1:23]

On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas received word of their emancipation — a full two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed and six months shy of the passage of the 13th Amendment, which would constitutionally abolish slavery in the United States.

Juneteenth was recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, becoming the first new federal holiday since Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day was adopted in 1983.

BOLD honors Juneteenth: The BOLD Employee Resource Group is partnering with the community throughout the month to honor Juneteenth with activities designed to help the African American. See the link at the bottom of the article to learn more about these events, including their marquee event on June 20, and how you can volunteer in your area.

☀️ The Up To Speed Summer Scavenger Hunt

Since it’s summer, and we scrapped *someone’s* idea of a treasure hunt of epic difficulty, we decided to make it easy.

  1. Keep watching Up To Speed – that’s where you’ll get your answers.
  2. Every Tuesday, be on the lookout for a question about the show from the previous week.
  3. Give us the answer in the comments, and just like that, you’re entered to win summertime gear and other Verizon swag.
  4. Keep tuning in to find out who won and get your next question (and opportunity to win)!

This week’s question:

On last Thursday’s show, we got some helpful gift advice from a V Teamer who was gearing up to celebrate his first Father’s Day. What was his name?

Got the answer? Good! Pop it into the comments. If you answer correctly, you’ll be entered into the drawing to win…

This week’s prize: An eco-friendly Nimble battery pack – perfect to keep you charged up for all your summer travels.

Tune in next week to see who won and get another question and another chance to win!
