Hey V Team, can you believe 2023 is only a few days away? On today’s edition of Up To Speed, host Jennifer Marin took a look back at some of the biggest wins for our Global Networks & Technology team in 2022.

And there were many, we have the most reliable, robust, secure and highest performing network in the world, and we’re still working hard every day to make it even better.

Awards galore

This year, RootMetrics awarded us our 18th consecutive win for overall network performance, that’s more than any other carrier in the report’s history. But that’s not all, RootMetrics again named us the most reliable 5G network in the United States.

Plus, in the latest J.D. Power 2022 U.S. Wireless Network Quality Performance Study, Verizon was the most awarded brand for Wireless Network Quality. This marks an unprecedented 29th time in a row that Verizon has won more awards in the Study for top network quality. The most of any wireless provider in the award’s history.

5G Ultra Wideband

Throughout this year, we supercharged our network in so many more places to deliver the best 5G experience for our customers using our C-Band spectrum.

In March, we announced that we got early access to even more C-Band spectrum and accelerated our timeframe promising to cover 175 million people by the end of 2022 with 5G Ultra Wideband.

And thanks to the incredible pace of deployment achieved by our network team – we’ve exceeded our own prediction. In fact, we provided access to 5G Ultra Wideband to more than 175 million people a month ahead of plan and we’re now on target to reach 200 million people within the first-quarter of 2023!

Building 5G right

And not only did we build the 5G network at the fastest pace in our company’s history, we built it right!

Where we have it, we’re enhancing capacity by activating 5G Ultra Wideband on 100 MHz of C-Band spectrum, a significant step up from the 60 MHz of spectrum available when deployment first began. By the time we’re done, we’ll have an average of 161 MHz of C-Band spectrum deployed and up to 200 MHz in some markets! Now that is remarkable speed and capacity for our customers.

mmWave deployment

mmWave continued to be an integral part of our build plan with our teams launching more than 10,000 new mmWave sites, which provide for exponential capacity in areas with dense populations and gathering posts like venues, airports, arenas and more.

Building on advanced technologies

In addition to making 5G more accessible to more people, we also focused and continue to focus on building out the advanced technologies that provide increased security, reliability and customized experiences for customers.

Some of those advancements include advancing the fiber network to handle exponential increases in data traffic and continuing massive virtualization of the network.

Investing in more capacity

As a company we’re proud of all of our network wins, but something we’re especially proud of is our commitment to evolving with our customers and understanding that their needs are ever changing.

Where, how and why our customers use our mobile network has evolved in recent years as people moved around the country and as we started offering fixed wireless access.

We are investing in new capacity for places like Florida, Texas and North Carolina to meet population shifts, adding capacity where it’s needed, improving software to optimize our network’s performance and completing OEM changes at a record pace so our customers can reliably use our multi-purpose network.

Global Technology Solutions team

This year, our Global Technology Solutions (GTS) team supported multiple device launches such as the Galaxy Z Flip 4, enabling our customers to have a smooth and hassle free buying experience.

Our GTS team was recognized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for industry leading cybersecurity, positioning ourselves as the highest scoring company in the telecom industry. Teams involved with NIST execution were awarded the Credo by President of Verizon Global Services Craig Silliman.

V Team, as you can see 2022 has been a busy and incredibly important year for our Global Networks and Technology team, so congratulations to them for their incredible achievements!
