Happy Monday V Team, on today’s edition of Up To Speed live, host Adi Wineland shared a full news rundown.

Hurricane Ian response

Over the weekend, Tropical Storm Ian developed into a hurricane, and Verizon’s response team is getting ready to keep communities and our first responders connected.

Verizon maintains a fleet of over 500 portable assets, including fully functional, generator-powered cell sites that can replace or enhance network coverage and capacity in a given area as well as drones and a fixed-wing aircraft that can provide service from the sky above. Additionally, Verizon boasts an industry-leading 150 satellite-based portable network assets that can be used in case a fiber connection is lost due to loss of commercial power or physical damage.

The Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team stands ready to deploy in support of public safety agencies nationwide — at no cost to the agency — to ensure they have the mission-critical communications support they need when responding to severe weather and other crisis events.

Hurricane Fiona assistance

On Friday, Verizon pledged $100,000 to the American Red Cross to help assist disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Fiona.

If you’re looking to donate, Verizon customers can text REDCROSS to 90999, and FIONA to 20222 to make a one-time $10 donation.

Global Citizen

The 10th anniversary Global Citizen Festival took place over the weekend, and our Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer Rose Kirk took to the stage with one of our Verizon Innovative Learning (VIL) students, Minu – whose story we showcased last week on Up To Speed.

Global Citizen is a philanthropic music festival that ties directly into our Citizen Verizon volunteer pillars of Human Prosperity, closing the Digital Divide, and protecting the planet.

And just this morning, on Good Morning America, we showcased Horton Elementary School in Newark, NJ, where we just opened a new Verizon Innovative Learning Lab. We were able to show how Verizon Innovative Learning has impacted more than 1.5 million students like Minu, on her future career options and underscores our longstanding commitment to closing the digital divide in education.

And there’s more! Verizon Innovative Learning is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and we shared a video message from Rose who highlighted the impacts this program has had.
