On today’s special midweek episode of Up To Speed Live, Hans and Andy shared the following updates:

Supporting our Asian-American brothers and sisters

Hans led off on a somber note, saying that he feels strongly that we need to acknowledge and take a stand against the continuing attacks against the Asian-American and Pacific-Islander communities.

“These horrific events have no place in our society,” said Hans. “As a company, we create the networks that move the world forward and having a diverse, inclusive and equitable company and society is how we move the world forward for everyone.”

Hans stressed that embracing diversity is core to our values and that we will continue the important and necessary work through ongoing conversations. As an Asian American, Andy admitted this was an emotional topic. He thanked Hans for raising the issue and urged all V Teamers to look out for their neighbors — all of their neighbors — to strengthen our communities.

Thankfully, we have long-standing relationships and partnerships with a diverse group of organizations including Asian Americans Advancing Justice and the National Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans.

We are committed to our partnerships with these and many other civil and human rights groups as they work to promote education, community engagement, training and advocacy.

It’s fitting that we are marking the beginning of Lunar Year. This is the year of the Ox, which is all about resiliency. These times are calling for resilience and kindness as we move the world forward together as one V Team.

The C-band auction has closed

We heard last evening that the FCC announced the winning bidders in the C-band auction. Hans pointed out that even though many of us may have questions about these exciting developments, he stressed that the quiet period for the auction does not end for ten more business days. FCC rules prohibit us from talking about the results until the quiet period ends at 6 PM ET on Wednesday, March 10.

Until then, please continue to be diligent and not discuss the C-Band with anyone externally or internally, except as previously authorized. Thank you for your continued diligence.

5G Mobility and Home news

Our customers in parts of Sacramento, CA, Seattle and Pensacola, FL, will now have access to Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband mobility service. That means customers in these cities can now experience ultra-fast wireless speeds, download and stream movies and TV shows in seconds, and videoconference and collaborate remotely in near real time. This is in addition to Verizon’s 5G Nationwide service, which was launched in those markets last year. And, Sacramento customers are also getting Verizon’s latest 5G Home Internet technology which comes with a free Stream TV device, offering an extensive library of OTT channels, apps and entertainment.

COVID-19 update

During his wrap-up, Hans acknowledged that the rates of positive COVID-19 cases are coming down in the U.S. and in many parts of the world, but we’re not back to normal yet. He stressed the importance during this “last mile” to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.
