On today’s Up To Speed, Raquel Wilson shared a clip from a conversation hosted by Andrew Testa with Krista Bourne, who leads Consumer Sales & Operations, and Brooke Jones, VP of the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, where they discussed the importance of kindness. Watch the full conversation here.

Brooke explained that for 20 years, the foundation’s mission has been very simple: Make kindness the norm. The foundation offers a wide range of inspiring resources to families, schools and workplaces at no cost.

Brooke also discussed the latest scientific research that identifies the physiological benefits — including a reduction in stress hormones — that occur when a person performs an act of kindness, receives it, or even witnesses the event.

Similarly, Krista discussed Verizon’s Call For Kindness campaign and the contagious power that it’s had in our lives and communities.

As Krista explained, since the beginning of the pandemic, “our retail professionals have been doing incredible work. Without their efforts day in and day out, the rest of us couldn’t get the wireless devices and broadband services that we need now more than ever. And even though their faces are hidden behind their masks, we need to remember that these are real people — mothers, fathers, husbands, brothers and sisters — that deserve our love and respect.”

We’ve partnered with Capital One and the filmmakers of the Amazon movie The Antidote to offer a select number of small businesses in Hartford, CT, Indianapolis, Raleigh, NC, and Tucson, AZ, $1,000 each to go toward kindness for their customers.
