On today’s Up To Speed, host Raquel Wilson spoke with three V Teamers about our Race and Social Justice Action Toolkit — part of our overall Race and Social Justice Action plan — and the elements they each found to be most valuable.

Aleena Taufiq, Data Scientist in Irving, TX, talked about how powerful it was to watch A powerful conversation featuring a panel of Verizon leaders. “It’s great to see that when our senior leadership facilitates important discussions it sets the tone for how our company shows up for change,” said Aleena.

Hartley Greaves, Process Engineering Manager in Ashburn, VA, shared how he was moved by Hans’ comments affirming Black employees at the Leadership Forum and how it showed that discussions on race coupled with action can end in a powerful result.

Jennifer Clark, Project Management Manager in Tulsa, OK, used the forums in the toolkit as a learning tool for herself and her children, proving that starting conversations at home are small steps that can amount to big change.

Raquel likes browsing the book section of the toolkit and getting ideas about what to read next. She’s been enjoying The Warmth of Other Suns and learning about the Black experience during the Great Migration.

Our improved toolkit displays all of our resources, so you can easily choose from a variety of options, including but not limited to podcasts, TED Talks, movies and series including our own #Next20. We also added a new section where we summarize what Verizon is doing to advance race and social justice that will be updated on a quarterly basis.

Raquel urges all of us to take the time to utilize the resources in our Race and Social Justice Action Toolkit so that we can move forward together for a more equitable future.
