Happy and peaceful Friday to you and yours. On today’s Up To Speed Live, host Diana Alvear and special guest Craig Silliman, EVP and Chief Administrative, Legal and Public Policy Officer, shared the following updates:

On crisis management

Coming on the heels of a challenging 2020, the first two roller coaster weeks of 2021 have been trying, to say the least. Craig stopped by to offer some perspective on recent events and how to effectively manage our emotions by choosing gratitude and hope. He also shared a moving story about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., discussed the importance of the work we do as a company and the potential impact of the new U.S. presidential administration on our business.

A thought-provoking and inspiring conversation that you won’t want to miss.

#Next20: Kids and mental health

If you have kids, you may be navigating their anxiety and fear as you cope with your own. Diana shared a clip from our latest #Next20 conversation, in which she spoke with Dr. Rachel Busman from the Child Mind Institute and Dr. Shairi Turner of the Crisis Text Line. The two experts covered why kids react the way they do and what parents can do to help. You can watch the entire conversation here.

Mental health volunteering

Last year, Verizon Media donated $10 million in ad credits to groups responding to the COVID-19 crisis with a focus on mental health. Today, through our volunteer portal, you can be trained to volunteer on the Crisis Text Line, one of the many ways that you can give back on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day as part of the National Day of Service. You’ll also help us contribute to the commitments we’ve made to helping others through our Citizen Verizon framework.

If you perform an act of service this weekend or just want to honor Dr. King legacy, let the world know through these social cards specially created for MLK Day. You can download them here.
