On today’s Up To Speed, Raquel Wilson shared the following updates:

Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday, celebrated the day after Cyber Monday, was launched in 2012 with a simple mission: To inspire people to give back and support their communities. While the current year has been a challenging one, one of the bright spots of 2020 has been seeing employees come together for the greater good. That includes the more than 400,000 volunteer hours that V Teamers have recorded this year as we work towards our company-wide goal of 2.5 million hours by 2025.

One more hour

Speaking of our volunteer goals, let’s all give one more hour before we ring in the new year. All you have to do is go to our volunteer portal and sign up for one of our virtual opportunities. There’s something for everyone, whether you want to spot penguins, write letters to veterans or older adults, or offer your time as a mentor to young students.

Just imagine the impact if every Verizon employee offered one more hour to help the communities and causes that need our support. The clock is ticking, so let’s make sure the final weeks of 2020 are defined by how we showed up to make a difference for those in need.

Citizen Verizon

As part of Citizen Verizon, our plan for economic, environmental, and social advancement, volunteerism is just one of the many ways we can give back. Here are the goals we set out to accomplish under our Citizen Verizon responsible business plan:

  • Digital Inclusion: Provide 10 million youths with the digital skills training necessary to thrive in a modern economy by 2030.
  • Climate Protection: Become carbon-neutral in our operations by 2035 by reducing emissions, investing in renewable energy and purchasing carbon offsets.
  • Human Prosperity: Prepare 500,000 individuals for jobs of the future by 2030 by enabling opportunities through skills training.

V Teamers can order Citizen Verizon shirts here. This shirt was produced by a certified African-American female-owned business, Ten10Design. For each t-shirt purchased, a $5 donation will also be made to the VtoV Employee Relief Fund. Please also consider a direct donation to VtoV to help employees impacted by hurricanes, wildfires, typhoons, tornadoes and domestic violence.
