Thank you for calling Verizon. This is Janette. Can I have your first and last name?

That simple greeting is something new for Janette, a Solutions Manager in California redeployed into a customer service position.

Janette is one of approximately 10,000 Verizon employees being redeployed with temporary work from home assignments, which include customer care and telesales roles.

“I’m a solution specialist currently working telesales,” said Cesar in New Mexico. “I was excited to try something new. I had never worked a phone job before.”

Like starting anything new, the transition can be both thrilling and daunting.

“The first day is a little nerve-wracking,” said Danielle, a Solutions Specialist redeployed to Telesales from her Pennsylvania home. “Even though you did the training, it’s still something different and now there’s a live person on the other end of the phone.”

“I was nervous to take the first call,” admits Janette. “But I remembered that I was also nervous my first day in a store and once I did, it just clicked.”

“After the first call, I realized the training had prepared me for this,” said Cesar. “That’s when I felt a little adrenaline rush. I just wanted to take more calls.”

One of the best parts of this mass redeployment is that no one is going through it alone. “The team is helpful. We’re creating a bond,” shared Igenter from Virginia, a Solutions Specialist redeployed to VBG. “Everyone is here for everyone. We’re all new to this and we all want to help each other succeed.”

“Being someone who was already speaking to people every day at the store, all of those skills come with me to customer service.” said Rockesha, a General Manager in Virginia redeployed to Customer Service.

With companies laying off or furloughing employees and skyrocketing rates of unemployment in the news, these V Teamers are thankful to be living a different story.

“I’m deeply humbled. I really am,”said Janette. “I cannot stress how grateful I am to my loved ones to still have a job and an income. I feel extremely blessed.”
