Long distance love in the age of coronavirus.

She lives in India, but her heart remains in Spain.

Mubin Sultan, a member of the Verizon India corporate communications team, got married last November to a doctor from Spain. She had been visiting her husband in Barcelona when the coronavirus became a significant news story.

“When I arrived, it looked like a situation that was still developing, but after two weeks we decided it was better for me to head home,” Mubin said.

She returned to India on March 4 and spent the next two weeks in quarantine. She remains in good health, but worries her husband won’t be so lucky. “The situation in Spain is deteriorating. My husband works for a huge hospital in one of the most affected areas. He is overworked and emotionally overwhelmed.”

To stay connected, they speak daily via WhatsApp, Twitter and other forms of communication. “I don’t know what we would do without technology. My husband messages me every day to let me know he’s OK because I’m always anxious. Thank God, he is doing fine so far.”

Meanwhile, Mubin continues with her work, now from home. She values connecting with the wider team whenever possible.

“I look forward to Up To Speed Live every day. It’s so reassuring to watch our leaders show up and it’s great to hear from Hans and Christy. And the fact that I can watch it on Twitter is really great.”

Thanks, Mubin. And a special thanks to your husband for being on the frontlines helping people who are fighting this virus. We wish you and your husband continued good health and a speedy reunion.
