ALBANY, NY – Fios, Verizon’s 100% fiber optic network is now available in parts of Schenectady, and Washington counties, New York. This deployment of high-speed broadband service was made possible through the company’s partnership with New York State and the FCC through the New NY Broadband Program.

Julie Slattery, vice president of network and field operations for Verizon, and community leaders celebrated the launch recently at the Duanesburg home of Debbie and Laverne Fish, the first customers to officially sign up for the new service.

“We are really excited to be the first in the area to get this service,” said Debbie Fish. “Giving our kids access to this amazing technology provides them with the tools they need to help them be better connected and compete in today’s world.”

“Verizon is focused on delivering high-speed broadband service, and the major economic benefits associated with it, to the difficult-to-reach service areas of upstate New York,” said Slattery. “We are pleased to officially launch this service with Mr. and Mrs. Fish and are looking forward to delivering the fastest internet in the country to more homes in the area.”

At Verizon, we don’t wait for the future, we build it. This partnership will expand high-speed broadband access to thousands of New Yorkers in the coming months and will enable New York State to better compete in the global economy.

“We congratulate Verizon on its launch of state-of-the-art Fios broadband in partnership with the Broadband Program Office,” said Jeffrey Nordhaus, Empire State Development Executive Vice President of Innovation and Broadband. “Broadband is a necessity for all communities in today’s economy and this launch is a game changer for these residents of Schenectady and Washington counties.”

“Broadband is a critical part of every aspect of our lives: it’s necessary for education, for commerce, and for the health and safety of our communities,” said New York State Senator George Amedore. “I’m so happy to see the residents of these counties – who have been underserved – get access to high speed internet, and I want to thank Verizon for their commitment to providing this vital resource to our Upstate communities.”

Since 2015, in New York alone, Verizon has invested more than $7.8 billion to meet and exceed our customers' growing needs and also build for the future. Through this public-private partnership, the company will invest millions more to fully leverage the resources provided under the New NY Broadband Program. “I am thrilled to be part of this celebration for this community,” said Supervisor Roger Tidball, Town of Duanesburg. “We’re off to a great start thanks to Verizon and their partnership with the state.”

As Fios high-speed service is rolled out to those communities where Verizon was named the designated provider by the New NY Broadband Program, customers will be able to choose from a variety of plans. One starts at $39.99 per month with speeds starting at 25/25 Mbps** or a $79.99 per month Fios Gigabit Connection plan with speeds up to 940/880 Mbps.* To sign up for service or check availability, customers can call 1-800-638-5144 or visit verizon.com/fios/4fjd.
