PIERRE, SD — Verizon Wireless today announced the addition of a new cell site off U.S. Highway 14 that will enhance coverage north of Pierre and within the city limits, including the state capitol area.
The new site will help Verizon Wireless stay ahead of its customer growth and network usage. For instance, from January to December of 2003, Verizon Wireless customer call volume in South Dakota increased 114 per cent during the busiest hour of the day.
"The Pierre site is part of our commitment to improve our network's coverage and capacity by building 16 new cell sites across South Dakota this year," said Viki L. Radden, president Great Plains Region, Verizon Wireless. "Each year we invest in network enhancements to provide a reliable customer experience. In 2003, for instance, we invested $27 million in our South Dakota network and this year we will also make a significant investment."
