GREENVILLE, SC — Bell Atlantic Mobile today announced its has acquired the cellular service market designated South Carolina-8 from South Carolina Cellular Corporation. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition represents an additional 187,500 POPs (potential customers) and expands the company's service geography by more than 2,800 square-miles. The RSA encompasses Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties, extending Bell Atlantic Mobile's service territory to the state's southern shore.
"This acquisition is consistent with Bell Atlantic Mobile's continuing strategy to increase our leadership position while growing our service geography in the Southeast," said Jerry Fountain, vice president -Southeast region "With this addition we've extended our South Carolina footprint and now serve the popular resort community of Hilton Head Island."
