LAS VEGAS, CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW (CES) -- MCI WorldCom today announced MCI WorldCom Prepaid Paging, the newest addition to its growing portfolio of prepaid products and services. MCI WorldCom Prepaid Paging is a simple, easy-to-use paging service without the lengthy application process, long-term contract commitment and credit check. Customers can start using the pager quickly by calling a toll-free activation number. When service units are depleted, customers can return to retail locations to immediately purchase more refill cards in $20 or $30 denominations. A reminder page is sent when the unit balance or service term nears expiration.

"Unlike most paging options out there, MCI WorldCom Prepaid Paging provides the convenience and budgetary control of a predetermined service rate," said Joe Borocz, Director of Prepaid Marketing for MCI WorldCom. "The ease of use, fun shape and affordability are key factors in appealing to both customers and retailers." The MCI WorldCom Prepaid Paging solution is an oval-shaped pager available in three fashion color choices - transparent gray, blue or clear - and each come with interchangeable faceplates. Features include alphanumeric paging, toll-free pager number (no pin numbers), customized greeting, caller I.D., and private voice mailbox. Users also have the option to receive text messages via an operator or the Internet. The nationwide pager has a suggested retail price of $59.99 and provides the service at no additional charge for the first 30 days after activation, up to 200 units of paging value.

The launch of MCI WorldCom Prepaid Paging speaks to the growing trend of prepaid wireless services. According to the Yankee Group, an estimated 34.4 percent of wireless phone users and 17.3 percent of postpaid pager users indicated they were interested in prepaid paging. The market potential is growing as well. The Pelorus Group expects the number of paging subscribers to grow from 41 million currently to 49 million in 2003. About MCI WorldCom: MCI WorldCom (NASDAQ: WCOM) is a global leader in communications services with 1998 revenues of more than $30 billion and operations in more than 65 countries. MCI WorldCom's global networks provide high-capacity connectivity to more than 45,000 buildings worldwide. MCI WorldCom and Sprint have announced a merger agreement, which the companies expect to close in the second half of 2000, following regulatory and shareholder approvals. The new company will be called WorldCom.
