The AccuWeather Network, designed for FiOS TV, debuts today offering an “all weather, all the time” source for 24/7 weather broadcasts.
The AccuWeather Network features national, regional and local weather updates provided in context, reporting on top weather news and applying it to peoples’ lives with topics such as family, safety, lifestyle, health, travel, business and more. The new channel is unique to FiOS customers and is dedicated to helping viewers effectively follow the stories that most impact them. It is available in the FiOS channel line-up on Channel 119 in SD and Channel 619 in HD. The Weather Channel and its Weather Scan feature are no longer in the FiOS TV lineup.
The AccuWeather Network allows Verizon to maintain weather information for FiOS TV customers who want a specialized view of both local and national weather activity while also helping Verizon reduce its overall content costs. AccuWeather is bringing its 50-year history of the world’s most experienced, most accurate and trusted brand in weather news and information, used by over 1,700 TV and radio outlets, to FiOS customers.
Consumers today want to access weather information in real time, whether out of the house or in front of their TV. Technology makes it possible to get forecasts, radar, warnings and more in the palm of your hand, on your laptop or over the TV. Apps like Weather Bug even let you choose by ZIP code. And on FiOS TV, Weather Bug is available via the widget applications. Viewers tuning to Channel 49 can launch the widget from there or go directly to the service using the remote control. The AccuWeather Network will also be available on the FiOS Mobile App in the near future.
The network will constantly improve and evolve with additional localized and customized programming, adding new features and content enhancements to further benefit viewers in the months ahead.
