Earth Hour, a global event organized by World Wildlife Fund since 2007, highlights the issue of climate change. This year, Earth Hour has taken a step further, moving beyond the single hour by starting Earth Hour Blue - a crowdfunding & crowdsourcing platform for the planet.
As part of Verizon's commitment to the environment, the company is participating in Earth Hour for the 5th consecutive year. Last year, Verizon planted more 5,000 trees in honor of its more than 13,500 Verizon employees that pledged to participate in Earth Hour by turning off their home’s lights.
This year, when a Verizon employee pledges to participate from home, they are given a choice of several endangered animals to vote for symbolically adopting via the World Wildlife Fund.
According to our chief sustainability officer, James Gowen, “Earth Hour provides each of us with a chance to not only act as greener citizens, but to also share and influence others to live greener lives.”
