During our #openforbizseries, we’ve featured small businesses rebuilding in lower Manhattan after the destruction created by Hurricane Sandy.  We’re continuing our series today with a business that has weathered the storm and is back open for business.

Rachel’s Bakery and Restaurant, located at 325 Bay Walk in Ocean Beach, NY, has been a staple of the Fire Island community since it opened its doors in 1972. Known for its delicious crumb cake, owner Rachelstarted her career as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher while opening up the bake shop on the weekends.

While the Bakery has been making their treats from scratch for over 42 years, Rachel’s also serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to those who don’t spoil their sweet tooth before grabbing a meal.

After making it through Hurricane Sandy, Rachel’s is now back up and open for business for all beach goers on Fire Island. Check out this video below!  And watch for some other Fire Island businesses that we will be featuring during this #SmallBizWeek
