NEW YORK - The sounds of salsa will have New Yorkers dancing in the sand as Verizon's "Salsa by the Sea" returns to Brooklyn on Aug. 16. This summer marks Verizon's 23rd consecutive year as a proud sponsor of the event.

"Verizon is very excited about 'Salsa by the Sea' because we understand the importance of different cultures within our society," said Ed Miller, executive director, Verizon Multicultural Marketing. "Our participation allows us to celebrate Latin music and join our valued customers at this community event."

Salsa Night, billed as the "Greatest Latin Show in New York," is part of the free Seaside Summer Concert Series held every year at Coney Island and sponsored by New York State Senator Marty Markowitz.

"We are pleased to provide this unique experience to the New York area," Senator Markowitz said. "Everyone, especially families, can enjoy these concerts since there is a wide array of musical genres and all shows are free to the public."

This year's Salsa Night includes performances by the El Gran Combo, Tito Rojos and Domingo Quiñones. Each of these popular and well-known musical acts originated in Puerto Rico and has earned accolades in both Latin America and the United States.

El Gran Combo, a thirteen-piece band, returns to Salsa Night with its energetic music and traditional sound. Soloist Tito Rojas, awarded in 1995 as "Puerto Rico's Best Salsa Artist," and Domingo Quiñones, commonly known for intense live shows, will delight "Salsa by the Sea" attendees.

Verizon invites all salsa lovers in the city to come and enjoy the music under the stars. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at Asser Levy "Seaside" Park on Sea Breeze Avenue in Coney Island, Brooklyn. By subway, take the D or F train to W. 8th Street (NY Aquarium) and walk one block east along Surf Avenue to Seaside Park. Look for the Verizon information booth.
