BALTIMORE - Verizon Maryland has named Paul G. Wood as its vice president of government affairs. He replaces Sean M. Looney, who left the company last November.
In his position, Wood will oversee all legislative activities for Verizon in Maryland.
Wood began his career with The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of West Virginia in 1978. Since 1991, he worked as director of public affairs for Verizon Maryland, where he coordinated all public and employee information efforts, including local advertising. He also was responsible for the company's community volunteer, corporate contributions and economic development programs.
A graduate of West Virginia University, Wood received a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. He completed graduate-level courses at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and the University of Virginia's Darden Graduate School of Business Administration. He is also a graduate of Leadership Maryland.
Wood is the current president of the Independent College Fund of Maryland, president of the Signal 13 Foundation supporting the Baltimore City police, and former president of Leadership Anne Arundel. In addition, Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley appointed him to the Baltimore Workforce Investment Board. Wood also serves on the board of the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts and is Verizon's appointed representative to the Living Classrooms Foundation and the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education.
Wood and his wife, Colleen, live in Arnold and have two sons, Brian and Sean.
