NEW YORK - With its aggressive, high-capacity fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) program well under way, Verizon has hired Terry Denson, former vice president of programming for Insight Communications, the ninth-largest cable operator in the country, to manage entertainment content and marketing strategies.
As vice president of video programming and content marketing and strategy for Verizon, Denson will guide video product packaging, pricing and marketing strategies; video content acquisition and distribution agreements; and customer education, acquisition and retention planning.
"As we push to take advantage of the delivery capabilities of our broadband services, Terry will broaden our insights and refine our strategies to leverage, via programming and packaging, the services we provide, be they traditional or non-traditional, including TV over Internet protocol," said Marilyn O'Connell, senior vice president of broadband solutions for Verizon.
"His experience with Insight, MTV and ABC rounds out our capability to compete powerfully over our broadband services," O'Connell said.
Verizon has begun an aggressive program to deliver broadband services over optical fiber directly to homes and businesses, and expects to pass 1 million homes by year-end and an additional 2 million homes next year. The first community with Verizon's Fios broadband service is Keller, Tex., and work has begun in Florida and California on FTTP installations, as well.
Denson served most recently as vice president of programming for Insight -- managing programming networks, development of analog, digital, video-on-demand and high definition TV, and broadband, interactive and content strategies. Previously, as director of business development and affiliate sales and marketing for MTV Networks, a division of Viacom International, he managed affiliate agreements, sales and distribution of multiple video services, and directed analyses of trends in the market. As general attorney for ABC, he managed numerous content rights and distribution issues.
A graduate of Harvard University, Denson holds a J.D. degree from Georgetown University.
