NEWARK, N.J. - Ellen M. Dotto, of Berkeley Heights, has been appointed director-state government relations for Bell Atlantic - New Jersey.
In her new position, Dotto is responsible for the daily interaction between the company and the various branches of the New Jersey state government. Prior to this new post, she was the director of Opportunity New Jersey, Bell Atlantic's program to accelerate the deployment of advanced telecommunications across the state, especially to schools and libraries.
She succeeds Jon P. Spinnanger and Andrew R. McDevitt, Jr. who retired recently with a combined total of 68 years' service with Bell Atlantic.
"Ellen has an extensive background in working with state agencies and the legislature, " said William Freeman, Bell Atlantic - New Jersey CEO and president. "Through her civic involvement and recent work to speed the availability of advanced services to schools and libraries, she has been a tremendous resource to the people of New Jersey. She brings a great many strengths to her new role."
Dotto began her career at New Jersey Bell in 1972 as a statistical analyst and has since held various finance, accounting and regulatory positions. In 1993, she became external affairs manager for Middlesex and Union Counties. She assumed responsibility for Opportunity New Jersey in 1996.
Dotto received a bachelor's degree in Economics from Trinity College, Washington D.C., and earned her MBA from Seton Hall University.
She is a member of the Board of Governors of Union County College and a 1997 Fellow of Leadership New Jersey. She serves on the board of trustees of the Philharmonic Orchestra of New Jersey and recently served as a member of the Business Coalition for Educational Excellence at theNew Jersey Chamber of Commerce. Dotto is the former chair of the Middlesex County Employer Legislative Committee. She also has served on the boards of New Brunswick Tomorrow, the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce and the Union County Chamber of Commerce.
In 1994, Dotto was honored by the Central New Jersey YWCA with its Tribute to Women and Industry Award. She received the Woman of Excellence Award from the Middlesex County Commission on the Status Women in 1996. She was honored by the City News of Plainfield as one of the 100 most influential people in New Jersey's urban communities in 1997.
Dotto and her husband Peter have three children.
