WASHINGTON -- Bell Atlantic will offer visitors to this weekend's For
Sisters Only Expo a chance to take home something more than a bag full
of leaflets and give-aways.

Participants in the event, which celebrates African American women, will
be able to pick up some business know-how along the way.

In addition to the company's exhibit of telecommunications services, Bell
Atlantic, a corporate sponsor of the expo, is offering seminars on career
development, small business technology and high-speed Internet access.

"We wanted to do more than stimulate awareness of the services we
offer and what they can do for customers," said Vince Reed, market
manager for ethnic and premium markets. "The seminars we've
planned allow us to share the insight and experience of some of key
employees on important issues to African American women in
business."

The third annual For Sisters Only expo will be held at the D.C.
Convention Center
Oct. 16-17. The event highlights the lifestyles, needs and concerns of
African American women during seminars, exhibits and entertainment.

On Saturday, three Bell Atlantic executives will discuss career
development and coaching at a one-hour seminar beginning at 1 p.m. on
the exhibit's main floor. Marsha Holmes, vice president of consumer
market management, will be joined by Brenda Finch, executive director of
directory services, and Marquita Carter, director of enterprise marketing
communications.

On Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m., tips on using telecommunications
services to solve business problems will be offered by Wanda Cox, market
manager for Bell Atlantic's General Business Services group. Services
such as voice mail, Caller ID, electronic mail and Internet access can
increase productivity and performance when used to manage work. The
seminar will be held in Bell Atlantic's booth.

On Sunday at 12:30 p.m., the hottest product in telecommunications, high-
speed Internet access, will be explained by Frank Nelson, Bell Atlantic
director of consumer data product management. Bell Atlantic's
Infospeedsm DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) service for consumers and
Infospeed DSL Plus for small businesses enable users to retrieve
information from the Internet up to 120 times faster than standard
modems. DSL is a valuable tool for individuals who use the Internet for
research, for pleasure or to do business online. This briefing will be held
at on the main floor.

Bell Atlantic's Infospeed DSL, Home Voice Mail, satellite TV service,
paging products and integrated telephone equipment will be demonstrated
at the company's expo booth. There will be give-aways and prizes for
expo attendees who visit the booth.

"This expo is a great opportunity for Bell Atlantic to get more
acquainted with an important customer segment," Reed said.
"We're proud to be a part of the Washington-area appearance of the
expo and look forward to meeting new friends this weekend."

To support participation by young women in the area, Bell Atlantic
donated expo tickets to Eastern High School in Washington and the
Fairfax County Office of Partnerships Computer Center for Girls Only
Program.

The Expo is being presented by radio station WPGC 95.5 FM and Heaven
1580 AM.
