Prague, Czech Republic -- EuroTel Praha early this
November became the first mobile operator in the Czech Republic to
exceed 900,000 customers. Attracting over 2,000 new customers per day,
EuroTel is currently on pace to surpass 1 million customers by the end of
the year.
"Just as last year, the EuroTel GO prepaid service will be the Czech
Republic's most popular Christmas gift," predicted EuroTel
Managing Director Ed Kingman. "At this accelerated rate, almost 10
percent of the Czech population will be a EuroTel customer by the end of
this year."
Kingman attributes EuroTel's increasing popularity to several factors,
including its unrivalled coverage advantage. Today with approximately
28% more cell sites than the number two GSM operator, EuroTel's high
quality network covers a territory representing 98 percent of the
population.
"High quality coverage does matter," said Kingman. "It
matters when you are in a restaurant underground and you need to be
reachable on your mobile. And it really matters when you are in your car
and you need to make an urgent or emergency call."
Moreover, only EuroTel offers SuperSound which is the highest level
GSM technology giving customers the clearest sounding calls in the Czech
Republic for no additional costs. "With Supersound, it is like talking
face-to-face," said Kingman.
EuroTel Praha Ltd is the Czech Republic's largest wireless service
provider with more than 900,000 customers. EuroTel's GSM and T!P
mobile phone networks cover 98 percent of the Czech Republic's
population, which represents more than 10 million people. Only EuroTel
offers SuperSound which provides the clearest sounding calls throughout
the Czech Republic. The company provides voice and data services and
recently launched EuroTel NetCall-55, a service that offers customers
international calling at discounts of up to 65%.
EuroTel Praha is a joint venture of SPT Telecom Inc. (51%) and Atlantic West B.V.
(49%). Atlantic West B.V. is equally owned by Bell Atlantic (NYSE:BEL) and
MediaOne International, which is a part of MediaOne Group (NYSE:UMG).
