Genuity to incorporate Akamai services into its suite of content delivery services

CAMBRIDGE, MA, and BURLINGTON, MA - Akamai Technologies (NASDAQ: AKAM) and Genuity (formerly GTE Internetworking) today announced an alliance in which Akamai will deploy its delivery servers in key sites near the edge of Genuity's network; such as data centers, POPs, DSL nodes, and international locations. In addition, the two companies have agreed to a reseller relationship in which Genuity will incorporate Akamai's FreeFlowSM services in its suite of content delivery services.

As part of the agreement, Genuity will provide Akamai with network bandwidth connectivity to Akamai's servers based on the end user demand for Akamai-served content. Servers will be connected to high-speed routers at the edge of Genuity's network, thus expanding the global reach of Akamai's Internet content delivery network.

"The deployment of Akamai's servers in Genuity's global network will ensure that our subscribers receive maximum performance for the delivery of Internet content, applications, and streaming media," said Paul Gudonis, president of Genuity. "With our global Internet backbone network now fully enhanced with Akamai servers, Genuity is continuing to lead in the delivery of complete network solutions, including DSL, dial-up and dedicated Internet access, high-performance Web hosting, virtual private networks (VPNs), managed Internet security, network management, systems integration, and Web-based application development for integrating the Internet into business operations."

"Genuity is an important strategic network provider for us given its position as one of the Internet's primary backbone providers," said George Conrades, chairman and CEO of Akamai. "Our presence on Genuity's Tier one Internet backbone is a very significant deployment for Akamai. It is fundamental to the Akamai strategy to collaborate with the best IP network providers around the world. Genuity's customers will continue to enjoy world-class performance, now enhanced by Akamai's content, streaming, and applications delivery. The combination of Genuity's data centers and Akamai's FreeFlow services will be immensely valuable to Internet content providers."

Reselling Akamai

Genuity will incorporate Akamai's FreeFlow services in its suite of content delivery services. Genuity will offer Akamai's content delivery services to its e-business and hosting customers to optimize end-to-end performance of their complex Web sites. Genuity's suite of managed solutions combined with Akamai's services is designed to improve the speed, reliability and performance of Genuity's customer Web sites and provide a better end-user experience. In addition, both Akamai and Genuity will support the other in joint marketing efforts relating to the relationship between the two companies.
