New Yorkers--Get Wired! NYNEX Begins Promotion for ISDN Into
Homes, Businesses

-- Installation Charges Waived on Low-Cost, High Bandwidth Service --

NEW YORK -- NYNEX today is beginning a promotion in the New York City metropolitan
area that will give customers the opportunity to convert -- at no charge -- their
home telephone service to ISDN.

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is a digital telephone line that transmits
data communications faster than a standard telephone line.  With transmission
speeds of up to 128 kilobits per second, NYNEX ISDN service is more than four times
faster than standard computer modems that transmit at 28.8 kb/s.

The special offer, which will run through the end of August, will enable

NYNEX's New York customers to upgrade their existing telephone lines to ISDN.
Under the promotion, NYNEX will waive the installation charges -- a savings of up
to $109 for residence customers and $156 for businesses.  Customers may simply
call NYNEX's toll-free line -- 1-800-GET-ISDN -- for more details and to order the
service.

To support the promotion, NYNEX will launch a series of radio spots that

feature NYNEX ISDN's unique applications for telecommuting, Internet access and
data transfer.  The spots were produced by NYNEX's advertising agency, The Lord
Group.  The promotion will expand to the Boston area later this year.

"ISDN is the answer to computer users need for higher speeds," said
Peter
Castleton, NYNEX managing director for data access products.  "With
about 90 percent availability throughout the New York City metropolitan area, NYNEX
ISDN is a low-cost, high-bandwidth, here-today technology that works as easily in
the home as it does in the office."

Castleton noted that the monthly cost for NYNEX ISDN is about $14 more than standard
telephone service, plus appropriate usage rates.

While the current promotion is aimed at conversion of existing lines to ISDN,
NYNEX also is offering installation discounts on new lines as well.  In addition,
NYNEX sales agents also may combine this offer with other promotions for added savings.

Castleton said that NYNEX has made several enhancements to the ISDN ordering
process during the past few months.  "We have hired additional personnel
at our centers, instituted a broad training program, and streamlined the ordering

process," the said.
