WorldCom, Inc. Announces Agreement With Excel Calling For $900 Million, Four-Year Commitment
JACKSON, Miss. (June 4, 1996) --
WorldCom, Inc. (Nasdaq/NM:WCOM) today announced an agreement with
ExcelCommunications, Inc. (NYSE:ECT) that calls for WorldCom,
Inc.'s wholesale unit, WilTel Network Services, to become a
major provider of network switching services and dedicated access
services to Excel.
The contract includes a
$900 million cumulative minimum commitment over four years. Excel
will begin migrating subscriber traffic to WorldCom, Inc.'s
national fiber-optic network within 60 days.

support Excel's outstanding growth in the reseller
marketplace," said Roy Wilkens, president and chief executive
officer of WilTel Network Services. "This further underscores
our commitment to the wholesale marketplace as well as the value
wholesale customers like Excel place upon the WilTel Network
Services products and services that are customized to meet their
needs."
Excel will be utilizing
WilTel's Transcend wholesale product. The first product of its
kind in the telecommunications industry, Transcend unbundles the
cost components of a long distance call and features proprietary
computer software that provides full audit capability as well as
regional customer calling patterns.
Kenny A. Troutt, chairman
and chief executive officer of Excel, said the non-exclusive
agreement will allow Excel to provide subscribers the highest
quality service at competitive rates. "We selected WorldCom,
Inc. as an additional service provider because we believe it has
the ability to meet our expansion needs as well as our subscriber
data management needs," Troutt said.
