INDIANAPOLIS — Football fans are enjoying clearer reception and fewer lost calls in and around the RCA Dome as a result of Verizon Wireless' boosting its network capacity in the downtown area by nearly 20 percent.

The company has activated a temporary cell site, also known as a COLT (Cell on Light Truck), which enables more customers to use their wireless handsets concurrently to make calls, send and receive e-mail and TXT, Picture and Video Messages, and download, music, games and ring tones.

The COLT is a fully functional mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity in a given area. Verizon Wireless has placed its COLT near the intersection of McCarty and West streets and will keep it there through the remainder of the season.

"This upgrade means more customers can keep in touch with friends and family during the Colts' home football games and share memorable pictures from the day instantly-all on the nation's most reliable wireless network," said Greg Haller, president—Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless.

The network improvement is part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase coverage and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Indiana and across the country. Verizon Wireless has invested $30 billion in the last six years-$5 billion on average every year since the company was formed-to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. The company has invested more than $618 million over the past six years in its Indiana network.
