Many enterprises and government agencies are faced with the increasingly complex task of managing mobile-device use among employees while still maintaining security. Whether employees are using their mobile phones to discuss high-stakes business strategies or sensitive but unclassified (SBU) government operations, the risk of call and text interception is real.

To address this growing concern, Verizon has introduced Voice Cypher, a powerful, cost-effective voice encryption solution that can be used on commercial smartphones. Voice Cypher provides end-to-end encryption between smartphones, even if the call crosses over multiple networks. It helps enterprise and government IT departments manage the expanding use of mobile devices, address the potential risks associated with the interception of sensitive voice communications, and provide a powerful tool to combat cyberattacks.

“Our enterprise and government clients have reported increased concern regarding mobile device, call and text security — especially as more business is conducted using smartphones and tablets,” said Justin Blair, director of enterprise wireless products at Verizon Enterprise Solutions. “Voice Cypher addresses those specific concerns in a cost-effective, reliable and flexible way.”

Verizon Voice Cypher is built using technology from Cellcrypt, a leading provider of encrypted voice calling and messaging services for commercial, off-the-shelf smartphones. Voice Cypher is available on AndroidTM, BlackBerry® and iOS mobile operating systems. The downloadable software application, which supports Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2, will work across cellular, Wi-Fi and satellite networks, including Verizon’s industry-leading 4G LTE wireless network. FIPS 140-2, created by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is a U.S. government computer-security standard used to accredit cryptographic hardware and software.
