Welcome to the month of October, a month of apple picking, pumpkin carving and many important days and themes that are worth marking your calendar for. And on today’s episode we kicked off the month Brady Bunch style to help get you “Up To Speed” with some of our October happenings.

Month-long themes
- Domestic Violence Awareness: Since 1989, October has been recognized as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Throughout the month we’ll be focusing on spreading awareness and uniting to help end the abuse across the country. - Cybersecurity Awareness: October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, an opportunity to make sure you’re keeping yourself, and Verizon, safe and secure. Check out our employee month-long activities that will help you “secure our world” and watch the October 16th Up To Speed to see the discussion with Chief Information Security officer Nasirin Rezai on best practices for staying vigilant when it comes to all things technology and data security.
- Breast Cancer Awareness: While October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, take the opportunity to learn about all we can do now and beyond to care for ourselves and raise awareness.. Get a free screening, take our pledge to fight breast cancer, and turn up the pink on your next Bluejeans meeting. Let’s all make October a moment of action as we fight breast cancer and support colleagues and loved ones.
- Get your free flu, COVID-19, and RSV vaccines. This time of year, many of us become exposed to contagious respiratory viruses. Customer Service Week: October 2 marks the start of Customer Service week, a chance to celebrate the amazing V Teamers who work tirelessly to deliver for our customers. Make time to share thanks with these hard working V Teamers.
Annual Benefits Enrollment: Annual Enrollment is the only time outside of a qualified life event to review your benefits choices and make changes that support you and your loved ones. 2024 Annual Enrollment for the U.S. takes place October 3-12 for East Associates, and October 17-26 for U.S. management and West associates. Look for tools on BenefitsConnection to reflect on your choices and take action. U.S. management V Teamers, here is your Annual Enrollment guide, use this guide to review your options, understand how you can earn up to $800 in credits and learn what’s new for 2024.

- October 11: Tech Expo (virtual) showcases assistive technology, tools, applications, and services that demonstrate how the promise of inclusion for all is delivered.
- October 12: Speaker presentations (virtual) featuring an exciting fireside chat as well as presentations and panel conversations from Verizon leaders from Design, Legal, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), Advance ERG and more!

Day of the Girl: Also on October 11 at noon ET, Chief Legal Officer Vandana Venkatesh hosted an ERG event in Basking Ridge, NJ to celebrate International Day of the Girl, an opportunity to focus on girls’ empowerment and human rights. Watch the replay here.
BOLD Homecoming: Fall is in the air, which means it’s homecoming season! Our Black Originators, Leaders and Doers (BOLD) ERG is kicking it off with a week of festivities starting on October 16, so be sure to read this article for some exciting ways that you can get involved.
World Mental Health Day: October 10 was World Mental Health Day. This article provides helpful insights on ways to take care of yourself. The Up To Speed team participated in, “Get your 10 on 10.10” and did one thing – in under 10 minutes – to strengthen their mental well-being.
