DBIR results are in

We kicked off the show with findings from this year’s newly released Data Breach Investigations Report, also known as the DBIR. In the 15 years since its inception, the DBIR has become an authority on assessing cybersecurity issues that threaten organizations every day.

This year’s report analyzed nearly 24,000 security incidents, more than 5,200 of which were confirmed breaches. Data was collected from 87 worldwide contributors, ranging from law enforcement groups to government agencies. One of the most alarming findings involved a year-to-year ransomware breach increase of 13 percent – larger than the past 5 years combined.

5G mobile edge computing

With the additions of Nashville and Tampa, Verizon and AWS are now offering 5G mobile edge computing in even more metro areas.

In case you were wondering, mobile edge computing moves application and service data processing closer to the end user at the edge of the network, shortening the round trip that data needs to travel and reducing lag time.

Cracking down on spam

Earlier this month, Verizon became the first service provider to submit foreign-language scam call examples to the USTelecom Industry Traceback Group, setting new standards for inclusive security measures.

Our industry-leading security capabilities have identified or blocked more than 24 billion unwanted calls for 82 million Verizon customers to date, and millions of spam text messages daily. These same measures have helped quickly identify and prevent rising threats, including Spanish-language and Mandarin-language spam calls.

Verizon wireless customers can block or avoid many of these types of robocalls through Call Filter at no cost. To learn more about our ongoing work to help protect customers from scam calls, click here.

New partners for Verizon +play platform

Two new partners, Age of Learning and Perlego, will be joining our Verizon +play platform.

With a focus on promoting education, these latest additions continue to demonstrate the hub’s benefit to users across all ages and interests – all, of course, on America’s most reliable 5G network.

Gearing up for the Indianapolis 500

Tomorrow’s Up To Speed is all about the Indianapolis 500 and our partnership with Team Penske. We checked out the qualifying rounds leading up to Sunday’s event, all while learning about our tremendous tech advancements at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – the largest sports venue with Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband.

One of those advancements allows fans at the track with a 5G-capable device to access Verizon's 5G Multi-View to watch the race action from up to seven unique live camera angles in high definition, including the live NBC broadcast.

T-shirt time

Starting Monday, our retail store teammates will be rocking a new look!

As our photos showcased, V Teamers soon will be rocking our ultra-comfy Ultra T-shirts, just in time for summer. They’ll be wearing these shirts until mid-summer, when our brand-new attire will be set to take us through the end of the year.

The importance of kindness

To help amplify our #ACallForKindness campaign to dial up kindness in our communities, mural artists Shane Pilster and Max “Gems” Gonzales earlier this week completed their Kindness Mural at 924 Main St. in Pittsburgh. And our message of kindness is spreading: This new mural generated at least 25 positive stories through Pittsburgh TV stations and news websites.

Since October 2020, Verizon has teamed up with incredible artists to paint Kindness Murals in more than 20 American cities. To learn more about our #ACallForKindness campaign, check out verizon.com/kindness.

Reflecting on Memorial Day

With the holiday weekend approaching, Andy closed the show with reminders to reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day, and to take the time with loved ones to honor heroes whose sacrifices protect our freedoms.

Tell us what you think of Up To Speed.
