Happy Friday, V Team! On today’s live edition of Up To Speed, host Raquel Wilson shared a full news rundown.

Up To Speed: Week in review

Mix and mingling across the country

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the members of our Local Communications team. They’ve been hard at work, mixing and mingling in Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, Charlotte, N.C., and Overland Park, Kansas, to chat with locals about our latest 5G phone promos, our powerful network and the value of Verizon Home Internet. (One of those events happened to take place in the backyard of a certain magenta company’s headquarters.)

We’re also doing our part in continuing to spread kindness: Tampa, Charlotte, Minneapolis and Portland are among our newest cities to showcase our Kindness Murals, highlighting Verizon’s #ACallForKindness campaign. Learn more about #ACallForKindness and sign up to pledge your support by clicking here.

But that’s not all: Our Local Communications team also has been hard at work to share our great promos and Verizon perks, and it’s getting the attention of some major publications, including The Washington Post, USA Today, Business Insider and CNET!

Brooklyn Affordable Connectivity Program

Our V Team recently headed to Brooklyn to sign up customers for the Affordable Connectivity Program that offers income-qualifying families access to free home internet. It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to bridge the digital divide in communities that need it the most.

Enhancing connectivity

Verizon announced it will deliver enhanced connectivity to about 80 Bureau of Indian Education schools, operated by Native American tribes on 64 reservations in 13 states.

Extending reliable, high-speed internet and connected devices to thousands more students on diverse tribal lands, Verizon’s investment bolsters the Bureau of Indian Education’s mission to provide quality education opportunities that begin in early childhood.

This partnership aligns with Citizen Verizon, our responsible-business plan whose mission includes expanding digital access and resources to promote digital equity and inclusion.

My Verizon app Improvements

Improvements to our My Verizon app are now live, providing a seamless experience for Home and Mobile customers, all in one app.

Lead Experience Manager Josiah House; Verizon Consumer Group Consultant Danielle Urig; and Lead Experience Manager Cedia Nathan discussed some of the app improvements.

As of yesterday, the new My Verizon app has generated more than 10 million visits and more than 88 million page views. Way to go, team!

Verizon Mastercard

Verizon Business has teamed up with Mastercard and the First National Bank of Omaha to launch a custom credit card designed to bring exclusive value to small businesses nationwide.

Existing Verizon Business wireless customers with fewer than 100 lines will be eligible to apply for the Verizon Business Mastercard and receive unique perks to help them grow their business and pay for things that their business needs. Customers can earn up to 5% back on their business purchases, in the form of Verizon Business Dollars, which can be used to pay their business wireless bill or towards the purchase of devices or accessories.

Cardmembers enjoy access to promotions on business solutions, curated content for the small business owner, Zero Liability fraud protection, Mastercard ID Theft Protection, 24x7x365 Global Emergency Support, and much more.

A big congratulations!

The V Team would like to give a special shout-out to Sowmyanarayan Sampath, who just completed his first week as CEO of Verizon Business!

We recently caught up with Sampath and shared a 60 second clip to get to know him a little bit better!

Disability Pride Month

July is Disability Pride Month and our theme this year is Advancing Achievements. Whether a person’s disability is seen or unseen, we can advocate for accessibility, share stories of achievements, and reflect on meaningful opportunities to advance members of the community.

We recently shared the story of Kristopher Ouellette, who was paralyzed from the chest down before working for Verizon. He encourages V Teamers with disabilities to speak up when they require assistive equipment that will improve their work experience.

Our Verizon ADVANCE (Advocates for Disability, Accessibility, Neurodiversity, and Caregiver Empowerment) employee resource group (ERG) has a great lineup of events this month:

  • Monday, July 11: Join ADVANCE and Disability:IN for an event hosted by Becky Kekula, who serves on the Verizon Disability Advisory Board and is the Director for the Disability Equality Index. She’ll be speaking to the V Team about the future of accessibility.
  • Thursday, July 21: ADVANCE will be joined by ThinkSelf, an organization offering adult education to the deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Monday, July 25: Join Chief Communications Officer Jim Gerace and Christina Schelling, Senior Vice president of Talent & Diversity as they discuss what the future holds for Verizon in the disability and inclusion space.

These and many more events can be found in this month's Disability Pride Month article.

Purpose Coin

We wrapped up the episode celebrating this week’s Purpose Champion: Kayleigh Adams from the Business Intelligence team. Kayleigh says living with purpose means connecting everything she does to a bigger picture and taking a moment to reflect on what we are trying to achieve as a business. Congrats, Kayleigh!
