On today’s Up To Speed, host Andy Choi hosted a live quiz show with a back-to-school theme.

Fall is just around the corner

It’s hard to believe, but for some kids in America, summer break is ending this week. Thankfully, our Verizon stores are stocked with everything tech-related that kids will need to head back to the classroom, including some great promos.

For all of these deals and more, drop in to one of our stores, use your My Verizon app, or visit us at verizon.com.

Did you know?

The quiz also brought back some school- or child-related Verizon products, services and programs that you may have forgotten about. For example:

The Verizon GizmoWatch 2 is a waterproof device chock-full of features like the GPS locator, which is great when trying to pick up your kids from school; a step tracker; and to-do lists with rewards. You and your child can also set up to 10 trusted contacts that they can send voice notes to, call, or text. The 4GB model is available in blue or pink for $99.99.

Verizon Mobile Protect provides protection, security and support for your mobile devices, including same-day device replacement, unlimited $29 screen repair and live, on-demand access to Tech Coach experts. These new benefits are in addition to battery replacement, malware blocking, WiFi protection, identity theft monitoring and more.

Verizon Family Money is the app that uses a prepaid debit card to help kids learn to save, spend and become financially savvy. The app encourages kids to earn money through chores, watch their savings grow and spend responsibly. Kids get the feeling of financial freedom, but at the same time, parents can observe via the app, set spending limits — and even lock their kids’ cards if necessary.

Verizon Smart Family gives parents peace of mind by letting them manage their kids' online activity, filter the content they see, manage their calls and texts and even pause the internet, all for just $4.99 a month. It’s also now compatible with select Android tablets.

Verizon Hum is great for parents with older kids who might be getting their first car or driving alone for the first time. The device/app combo offers roadside assistance, vehicle diagnostics and maintenance reminders to keep you and yours safe on the roads. You can also get in-vehicle WiFi added for $10/month and the device will track your acceleration, speed, braking, cornering and phone use. The app uses all of this data to give you or your child a driving safety score. You get an objective review of your child’s driving habits!

Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) equip students and teachers at select middle and high schools with a device and up to a four-year data plan, and provide students without reliable home internet access with a mobile hotspot. In addition to free technology and access, VIL schools receive extensive teacher training and support to leverage technology in their classrooms and improve achievement in STEM classes.

For those of you with young athletes out there, AR Pro Interactive is an app that allows you or your kids to follow the form of the world’s top athletes using augmented reality. If you recall, we featured the app on Up To Speed with golf pro Tony Finau helping Hans and Andy with their golf swings. Other pros include Megan Rapinoe (soccer); Sloane Stephens (tennis) and Ray Allen (basketball). Check it out here on the Google Play store and the App store.

Last week we launched additional features for Mix & Match on Fios. One of them is Whole Home WiFi: at no extra cost, we provide a network extender to go with our router to ensure in-home coverage for all gigabit customers. With so many students doing online-based homework and parents working from home all at the same time, it’s never been more critical to have a strong and reliable WiFi connection.

ADA anniversary

Andy was wearing our Verizon ADVANCE Employee Resource Group shirt today, helping to highlight Disability Pride month. In fact, today marks the 31st anniversary of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. The legislation was the world’s first comprehensive declaration of equality for people with disabilities. As V Teamers, we believe in equity and we are committed to a culture of inclusion. We’d like to give a big shoutout to our Verizon ADVANCE ERG for leading the way.

New V Teamer

Before we go, a big congratulations to one of our V Teamers who recently became a new dad and shared a cute picture that will certainly lift your spirits. V Team Engineer Deep Panara shared an adorable photo of his newborn daughter Ava, sporting her Verizon onesie with pride.

Ava’s got a few more years before she’s back to school, but we want to thank all of you for taking part in our back-to-school quiz. Hope you know a little bit more about all that Verizon has to offer and had a little fun at the same time.
