“Take risks, break barriers, and create success on your own terms” is the story of “Unapologetically Ambitious,” the inspiring story of Verizon Board member, businesswoman and author Shellye Archambeau. Learn more about Shellye's success story on Feb 17 at 12 PM ET, when Shellye will sit down for a fireside chat with Consumer Group Chief Operating Officer Krista Bourne and share about her compelling experiences that led to her climb up the ladder at IBM and then serving as the CEO of MetricStream, Inc. for 16 years.

The event is brought to us by BOLD, our Black Originators Leaders and Doers employee resource group, for Black History Month as we celebrate the rich culture, history and accomplishments of Black and African-American people. And it’s the perfect time to acknowledge the accomplishments of successful Black women like Shellye and Krista, who through their stories can motivate and inspire all of us to take action toward achieving our ambitions for career and for life.

Unapologetically ambitious.

Ambitious women are not strangers to Shellye, and she writes about those of whom she’s mentored and admired in her book, “Unapologetically Ambitious.” Fortune magazine selected the book as one of the top business books of 2020 and, upon reading it, you’ll understand why. Shellye documents her journey as a young Black woman overcoming countless hurdles and challenges to reach her desired success. She consistently strategized and took countless risks, breaking through barriers in order to create and achieve success on her own terms. Shellye has left her mark as one of Silicon Valley’s first female African-American CEOs.

You’ll enjoy learning more about Krista’s Verizon journey as well, as the two women share about their careers while also working in the toughest job of all — Motherhood. Krista has held a number of positions during her 20+ year career as a V Teamer; however, what many might not know is that she started her career as a mailroom assistant. I think that you’d agree she’s unapologetically ambitious too.

Support that women, and in this case, Black women, lend to one another is critical to their mutual success along with the celebration of that success. At Verizon, we’ve ranked 16 times as a Top Company for Multicultural Women and 14 times as a Top Company for Executive Women. This doesn’t happen by accident – these types of awards are achieved because of the hard work and determination of our current and future female leaders as they strive to build success for themselves and for others, something for which they should be unapologetically ambitious.

Join this amazing conversation between two highly successful leaders, who have much to share about their journeys and the support they received along the way. They have a great deal to celebrate this Black History Month (and every day). See event details below — and we’ll see you there!
