Select Comfort Uses MCI Advantage

To Create "Stores Of The Future"

-- Leading Bed Retailer Gets Firm Support from MCI --

ASHBURN, Va., JUNE 17, 2003 - MCI today announced that Select Comfort, the nation's leading bed retailer and creator of the Sleep Number® bed, will use the MCI Advantage to help facilitate their "store of the future" vision so Select Comfort customers at more than 100 U.S. retail locations can share a common experience.

Through an expanded agreement with MCI, Select Comfort will use MCI Advantage to consolidate systems and converge local, long distance and Internet access over a single IP connection at its corporate headquarters and retail locations. MCI also will deliver high-speed DSL connections in more than 150 Select Comfort locations. MCI was able to implement the solution using Select Comfort's existing PBX and telephone equipment, therefore no expensive installations or hardware solutions were required.

"The economics of MCI's convergence solution made more sense than traditional networking options," said Rick Larson, director of Technical Services at Select Comfort. "MCI was the only carrier that looked at our entire telecommunications system and showed us how we could simplify and improve several of our processes - not just our bandwidth obstacles."

Select Comfort is using MCI Advantage to establish the critical component of the foundation technology required to deliver the "store-of-the-future" concept that will deliver a universal sales and customer care experience by making it possible to distribute new and revised business applications over its nationwide retail network. Store staff and market managers will be able to leverage the network to deliver tools and systems that will assist the retail sales professionals with their mission, including innovative systems that demonstrate the unique advantages of the Select Comfort mattress technology, using Select Comfort's "pressure mapping" sales tool. What's more, Select Comfort stores will be plugged into up-to-the-minute corporate communications, including human resources information and marketing materials such as product signage and sales collateral.

"Select Comfort is leveraging MCI Advantage to their competitive benefit," said Michael Holland, MCI vice president of Commercial Markets. "By converging voice and data over a single IP network solution, MCI is helping Select Comfort to do business better, faster and more cost-effectively while modernizing the overall retail experience for its customers."

As the only provider to truly deliver converged data, IP and voice solutions, MCI empowers enterprises to enhance business processes and collaboration with customers, suppliers, employees, constituents and partners. By delivering interoperable, IP-based solutions through its unmatched Access, Transport, Infrastructure and Intelligent services, MCI is transforming customer networks to deliver next generation business advantages for its customers today.
