Verizon Wireless Statement On Airwaves Auction Rules For C- and F-Blocks
August 25, 2000
Media contact: | Jeffrey Nelson, |
Bedminster, N.J. - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) today announced that it had adopted changes to its rules for reauctioning C- and F-block spectrum licenses. Denny Strigl, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless service provider, made the following statement:
"Verizon Wireless applauds the FCC's decision to the extent that it removes the eligibility restrictions on bidding for some of the PCS licenses, because, as we have often stated, the FCC should not be discriminating among companies who want to acquire spectrum by allowing some but not all into the auction room. The decision is a step in the right direction. But we believe that the FCC should have gone farther by opening up all of the licenses to interested parties, and by removing the arbitrary and outdated spectrum cap. We will need to review the actual rules once they are released before we can evaluate them fully. As with all business opportunities, we will carefully consider our options and make the best possible decisions on how to proceed."
