More Than Five Million PowWow Users Can Now Receive Instant Notification When A Phone Call Comes In While They Are Online
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., August 3, 1999-
Recognizing that most online communicators are enjoying the Internet via their household's sole phone line, Tribal Voice
, a leading provider of instant messaging and online community software, has teamed with GTE Internetworking to offer the more than five million users of Tribal Voice's PowWow
software a quick and easy way to stay online for hours without missing a phone call. With GTE's Internet Call Manager (ICM), PowWow users can now receive instant, on-screen notification of any incoming phone calls while connected. PowWow users who subscribe to ICM can exercise their option to take the call, send a customized notification message to the caller or simply ignore the call.
"We know from surveys and direct feedback that PowWow users tend to stay online for hours at a time every day of the week," said Tribal Voice Vice President of Marketing Richard Dym. "ICM gives our users an easy way to stay online and take important calls without the expense of installing a second phone line."
The Internet call waiting market is expected to grow to 21.6 million households and generate $399 million in service revenue by 2003, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). Over 44 percent of all single phone line, online households surveyed by IDC said they are interested in subscribing to an Internet call waiting service.
"Tribal Voice's comprehensive interactive communications suite represents just the kind of online offering that makes people want to stay connected for hours," said Paul O'Brien, vice president of GTE Internetworking and general manager of IP Telecom. "We are pleased to offer PowWow users ICM as another way to enrich their online experience by allowing them to remain online without missing an important phone call."
