Transaction Network Services Signs Pilot Agreement With
Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile to Offer CDPD Services

BEDMINSTER, NJ -- Transaction Network Services, Inc.
(TNS)
(NASDAQ:TNSI) and Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile announced today that they
have signed a pilot agreement through which TNS will offer its
customers wireless access to its network using Bell Atlantic NYNEX
Mobile® AirBridge® Cellular Digital Packet Data
(CDPD) services
.
Processors will now be able to serve merchants in remote locations
where hard wire telephone lines are currently unavailable.

TNS will purchase airtime directly from Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile so
that it can offer customers end-to-end service, including both the
airtime and backbone network transport to customer hosts.

CDPD technology is generating a great deal of interest among
transaction processors who want to provide processing services to
merchants and vendors who do not have access to telephone lines.
Typical applications would include outdoor venues, such as malls and
kiosks, or other points-of-service such as taxis or cruise ships.
Additionally, merchants can supplement their existing service with
wireless service during busy periods, creating "virtual"
check-out
lanes. CDPD offers merchants the same benefits of access speed and
reliability as existing landline service and, unlike other wireless
options, the CDPD airlink is encrypted for data security.

CDPD technology efficiently transmits short bursts or "packets"
of
data over the cellular infrastructure. Its completely open and widely
supported standard offers inherent encryption to protect the user's
data, and its specification is based on the widely used Internet
protocol (TCP/IP) for ease of implementation. AirBridge Packet
service complements the other wireless data services presently offered
by Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile: AirBridge Fax, AirBridge
Circuit-switched solutions, and AirBridge Gateway.

"TNS has always led the way in providing advanced and reliable
access
technology," commented Brian Bates, senior vice president and
general
manager of TNS' POS division. "Our customers are now identifying
new
applications that require alternative access technology. We believe
that the combination of the Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile network, with
its extensive coverage and capabilities, and the TNS network will meet
our customers' needs by providing a superior, cost-effective CDPD
service to the transaction processing marketplace."

"CDPD technology is a perfect match for credit card processing
because
it provides a new level of speed, accuracy, and most of all the
convenience of portability," commented Mike Franklin, director of
wireless data marketing at Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile. "We are
pleased
that TNS has chosen to work with Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile to offer
this capability to their customers."

Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile is the
