Internet World, LOS ANGELES - GTE Internetworking today announced that it has re-named the company Genuity Inc., reflecting the steps the company has taken to position itself going forward as a premier provider of Internet infrastructure and e-business solutions.
The new name is derived from the word ingenuity, which by definition means "ingenious, original, resourceful and inventive." Genuity, and its new logo, a copper-colored rendition of the name with the "i" stylized in silver, reflect the company's innovative roots at BBN, which developed the original Internet network. The name was taken from Genuity Corp., an industry leading Silicon Valley Web hosting business that GTE Internetworking acquired in 1997.
Genuity provides a new brand under which the company can establish greater distinction in the marketplace as a leading Internet infrastructure and e-business service provider. The company will begin using the new name and logo immediately, converting all of its signage and customer materials during the next several months.
As part of the proposal presented by GTE Corp. and Bell Atlantic to the FCC to approve their merger, the companies have announced their intention to transition GTE Internetworking to a public company.

Genuity's enterprise customers rely on its comprehensive suite of managed Internet infrastructure services to create and implement their e-business strategies. These services combine a Tier One backbone, secure access, managed secure hosting (bundled VPN and hosting service), and 24 x 7 business support services. The company's service provider customers rely primarily on Genuity's Internet access and Web hosting services, which enable them to focus on the retail aspects of their business while Genuity provides and manages the underlying scalable infrastructure necessary to deliver Internet access services to customers.
