WILMINGTON -- Most Bell Atlantic customers in Delaware soon will see lower local telephone service rates as the result of several decisions made today by the state Public Service Commission (PSC). The new rates are effective July 1, 2000.
In one decision, the PSC approved rate reductions for residence and business Touch-Tone service and carrier access charges totaling approximately $486,000 per year. Bell Atlantic-Delaware is making the reductions under the Telecommunications Technology Investment Act (TTIA). There have been no basic rate increases in the six years since Bell Atlantic-Delaware elected to be governed under the TTIA, and in fact, these rates have decreased for three straight years.
In another decision, the PSC approved changes in classifications for local usage and miscellaneous services affecting a small number of customers. These changes coupled with the TTIA reductions, result in an overall net rate reduction to customers of $123,000.
"Delaware consumers and businesses continue to benefit from regulatory reform legislation," said Joshua W. Martin III, president and CEO of Bell Atlantic-Delaware. "This legislation has resulted in affordable phone rates for all Delawareans. It's a credit to the vision of the General Assembly and Governor Carper, who recognized the competitive revolution in our industry and the need for a new regulatory framework for the 21st century."
