CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Bell Atlantic is moving its popular West
Virginia News Media Guide from paper to cyberspace. Starting today, the
guide can be found on the Internet at www.wvmediaguide.com.
"We began publishing this guide as a public service nearly 35 years ago, at
a time when the most sophisticated technologies in the newsroom were a
teletypewriter and an electric pencil sharpener. The power of the Internet
now gives us the opportunity to provide on-going updates to the guide,"
said Stan Cavendish, director of external affairs for Bell Atlantic - West
Virginia.
Cavendish said the on-line version of the guide, which is in its 11th edition,
is being produced under a license agreement with Citynet, a West Virginia
Internet service provider and the publisher of the guide. The West
Virginia Broadcasters also assisted in producing the guide.
"The West Virginia Media Guide is the best on-line media resource in the
state. Not only does it continue to provide valuable information about
West Virginia media, it also has new features such as searching, real-time
updates, and hyperlinking," said Jim Martin, general manager of Citynet.
"There is no other place on the Internet where you can find a West
Virginia media portal that is this complete and easy to use."
The guide contains nearly 350 listings for media outlets from throughout
West Virginia, including all commercial newspapers, radio and television
stations. Unlike the printed version, users can search for all media for a
given city or county, or search for a given name. The on-line version
includes web sites and e-mail addresses where available.
The guide also includes listings of public television and radio, media
associations, college newspapers and radio, and several web-based media.
Bell Atlantic and Citynet also collaborate to produce on online West
Virginia travel guide, which is available at www.westvirginia.com/
Citynet is a division of City National Bank of Charleston, a City Holding
Company affiliate.
