Purpose designed to create an environment for the hosting and management of e-business applications On the night of the 27th January, we opened our new headquarters, a state-of-the-art office and technical facility in Erne Street, Dublin 2. A combination of 150 sales, customer service, administrative and technical staff will operate from the new headquarters located in this development area of Dublin.
One of the largest of this type of facility, the new building houses the company's Dublin-based staff in a highly ergonomic environment, alongside a vast array of state-of-the-art telecommunications technology.
Speaking on the night of the launch, David Hughes, CEO, MCI WorldCom in Ireland, said, "The facility has been purposely designed to provide space (a dedicated Co-Located floor) for the housing and management of customers' own service applications on our site. Our service and technology offering combined with the expertise of the Irish staff on the ground ensures that all our Irish customers will gain competitive advantage in this fast moving market."
The Minister of Public Enterprise, Mary O'Rourke TD who officially opened the building said, "The opening of the MCI WorldCom offices is a further vote of confidence in the Government's commitment to Ireland becoming a global player in e-commerce." She also praised Etain Doyle, the Director of Telecommunications Regulation who also attended the launch, for her role in the continuing development and regulation of the sector.
Liam Strong, MCI WorldCom International CEO said that, the Irish operation is an example of the rest of the group on how to operate, producing record sales and profits, and that the Irish economy was a model to the rest of the world." He went on to praise the Minister for her pivotal role in the economy and for having the vision in the telecoms sector to bring forward deregulation.
Des Cahill of RTE fame was MC for the evening and seemed to have the inside track on all participants from David Hughes' Leeds trial to the adventures of Liam Strong as a student in Dublin. Des directed the celebrations and mingled with customers, suppliers and friends of MCI WorldCom in the crowd throughout the night.
About 150 guests enjoyed a flavour of three different international dance acts and the cuisine supplied by Cookes was reflective of the international breadth of MCI WorldCom operations.
