MCI WorldCom Conferencing To Provide Busy Professionals With Internet Access To Conference Calls
Conference Webcast Streams Video, Audio, And Internet-Based
Document Conferencing To The Desktop
ANAHEIM, Calif., October 26, 1998 -
For business people at remote locations, participating in a conference
call just got easier. With Conference Webcast, a new all-in-one
conferencing service from MCI WorldCom Conferencing, professionals will
soon be able to log onto the Internet, see and hear their meeting
leader, view handouts and interact with other callers via chat sessions
or a separate audioconference call.
Conference Webcast allows the streaming of audio, video and Net
technology so participants can simultaneously see the speaker, view a
presentation and correspond with other participants without extensive
equipment.
"Busy schedules and meeting overload prevent professionals with
limited access to videoconferencing equipment from attending important
meetings," said Tim Reedy, vice president of finance and marketing
for MCI WorldCom Conferencing. "Conference Webcast will give
anyone with a PC and an Internet connection the ability to participate
in a live conference call as if they were attending the meeting. They
can look at the handouts, use chat text to communicate with colleagues
and listen to the speaker without traveling to a dedicated
facility."
Because Conference Webcast enables Internet participants to
communicate with the speakers and other participants, the service is
ideal for executive briefings, town hall meetings or other applications
requiring a question-and-answer session. In addition, multiple
presenters can host a Conference Webcast and stream their video from
geographically separated facilities by using MCI WorldCom
Conferencing's multi-point bridging service.
"Conference Webcast allows even the most remote employee to
feel like they are sitting at the conference table," said Bob
Rettig, senior manager of advanced conferencing services for MCI
WorldCom Conferencing. "This new service allows businesses to
bring the best technology from audio, video and Net conferencing
together using only a PC and an Internet connection--it is that
simple."
MCI WorldCom Conferencing is demonstrating Conference Webcast at
TeleCon; the teleconferencing industry's largest trade show. The
service will be commercially available next year.
