MCI Offers Managed DSL Access Solutions For Internet And IP VPN Customers In Europe
Expands Access Choice for Businesses in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK
READING, United Kingdom, 19 August 2004 - MCI (NASDAQ: MCIP) today announced three managed Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) access solutions designed to meet the Internet and IP VPN connectivity requirements of business customers in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK. This broad range of managed DSL services offers businesses a variety of broadband access line speeds, performance levels and multi-user options.
The addition of DSL services enables MCI to offer its customers a choice of wide area network (WAN) connectivity methods - from high-capacity leased lines to dial and now, DSL - to ensure that every employee at each of their offices has the ability to collaborate and access business information easily, efficiently and securely, on a cost-effective basis.
"By adding DSL to our network access portfolio, MCI is fortifying its ability to provide complete single-source WAN solutions, tailored to the specific service demands of each customer location - from its headquarters to home-based workers and all points in between," said Andrew McGrath, vice president of marketing for MCI in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). "This flexibility, combined with MCI's management of these DSL solutions, allows MCI customers to better allocate their network service budgets and to maximize their company's return on its telecom investment."
The managed DSL access solutions include: MCI Internet & IP VPN DSL Office, MCI Internet & IP VPN DSL Solo, and MCI Internet DSL Remote. A variety of symmetric DSL (SDSL) and asymmetric DSL (ADSL) bandwidth options are available with these products.
MCI Internet & IP VPN DSL Office
These services are designed for single site companies or a single location of a multi-site corporation with up to 150 employees. A secure, reliable, high-speed connection to MCI's global IP backbone is delivered through a MCI-provided modem/router for simple plug-and-play service activation by the customer on its premise, backed by industry-leading, end-to-end service level agreements (SLAs). The managed service includes technical support, fault restoration and troubleshooting assistance from MCI IP engineers with access to the MCI Customer Service Help Desk. Pricing is flat fee, independent of usage, so customers always know and can predictably plan for their Internet and IP VPN access costs (except Germany where the service is metered). The DSL Office services are available now in France and Netherlands, and will become available in Belgium, Germany, Sweden and the UK in November 2004.
MCI Internet & IP VPN DSL Solo
These multi-user solutions extend high-speed Internet access and corporate WAN connectivity to a business location with up to 20 employees. As with MCI Internet & IP VPN DSL Office, this high-speed solution delivers connectivity to MCI's global IP backbone through a MCI-provided modem/router for simple plug-and-play service activation by the customer. It is backed by industry-leading end-to-end SLAs and includes technical support, fault restoration and troubleshooting assistance from MCI with access to the MCI Customer Service Help Desk. Pricing is flat fee, independent of usage, so customers always know and can predictably plan for their Internet and IP VPN access costs (except Germany where the service is metered).
An important difference between the Solo and Office products is the customer's capability to use MCI Internet & IP VPN DSL Solo access circuits for the simultaneous transmission of data and voice calls. This allows Solo users to optimize utilisation of available circuit capacity while avoiding unnecessary line rental charges. MCI offers separately available services that allow customers to use the same Solo circuit for both voice and data communications. The DSL Solo services are available now in France, the Netherlands and the UK, and will be available in Germany, Belgium and Spain in November 2004.
MCI Internet DSL Remote
Designed to provide a company's remote, home-based and mobile workers with maximum access flexibility, this service provides end-users with secure broadband Internet and WAN connectivity wherever a DSL connection is available. It offers centralised customer administration of 25 to 2,000 single-user DSL accounts via a simple Web-based interface for creation, editing or deletion of user accounts, maintenance and more - all managed by MCI with one usage-based bill for all accounts. Like
all of its DSL access services, Internet DSL Remote is backed by MCI's industry-leading SLAs. At present, this service is only available in Germany.
MCI Internet & IP VPN DSL Office and MCI Internet & IP VPN DSL Solo include DSL line ordering as part of service management. MCI Internet DSL Remote requires the customer to arrange for their own DSL lines.
"The introduction of these DSL access solutions not only positions MCI to benefit from the overall growth in broadband throughout Europe, it also offers businesses the opportunity to leverage competitive access alternatives in local markets to their advantage," said McGrath.
