MCI Expands Global Hosting Portfolio

Integrated Digex and MCI Capabilities Deliver New Services and Next Generation Business Offerings

ASHBURN, Va., June 29, 2004 - MCI (MCIA.PK) today announced it is expanding its Global Hosting portfolio by leveraging its Digex capabilities to help businesses drive greater efficiencies, improve network and server performance and enhance productivity. With new services like MCI's Enhanced Monitoring for Colocation, the company is extending its core competency from the network layer to the application layer to offer customers more complete, next-generation communication solutions.

"MCI is combining its advanced networking and computing capabilities to provide businesses with the next wave of value-added services to help streamline and enhance their day-to-day business operations," said Nancy Gofus, MCI senior vice president of Product Management. "Through the integration of Digex and MCI capabilities, customers can now more simply and securely set-up online commerce sites, perfect enterprise portals, drive business automation and strengthen business continuity efforts."

MCI's new Enhanced Monitoring Service for Colocation will provide MCI's Premium Data Center customers with increased visibility into the health of their servers. By extending the Digex monitoring infrastructure into its Premium Data Centers, MCI can help customers gather important information about their systems, including CPU and disk space utilization, all from a remote desktop. With reports available through its Client Central Web portal, MCI customers can use the collected data for trending and strategic planning purposes. Customers can also customize the service to send alerts when specific monitoring thresholds have been exceeded.

MCI's comprehensive new suite of services is suitable for small to large businesses. Each set of hosting services is designed to give customers the level of control they desire-whether it's fully outsourced or self-managed-while delivering unparalleled IP expertise and performance, and direct connections to MCI's global IP network. In addition, MCI's managed services unit MCI Solutions can provide tailored hosting and application management solutions to meet the individual requirements of businesses. MCI's new portfolio consists of three tiers of services, including:

Enterprise Hosting, a Digex Service, enables businesses to outsource the management of their Internet infrastructure and applications to MCI and are ideal for companies that want to offload hardware maintenance and repairs, 24/7 monitoring, patch management and application support. With its wide range of Smart Services and Application Management offerings, MCI can help companies outsource critical system management tasks so they can focus their resources on core business needs. In addition, MCI's Hosting Professional Services and Client Support representatives can provide specialized technical assistance including consulting and project management services.

Data Center Services offerings are ideal for the colocation of Internet servers, data networking or voice equipment in a secure, flexible and carrier-grade environment. MCI also provides a la carte managed services including Load Balancing, Back Up and Restore, Managed Firewall, and Virtual Private Networking services.

Hosted Services offer a broad range of shared, dedicated and on-demand hosted solutions to allow customers to outsource specific Internet applications and offload the inherent complexities in managing them to MCI's expert hosting team. For example, MCI's Managed Messaging for Microsoft Exchange enables businesses to outsource their corporate messaging service at a flat rate per user, per month. Offering ease and convenience, IT managers can simply add, delete and administer messaging users through an online portal without the need for applications expertise.

MCI will infuse its new capabilities into building next-generation offerings that leverage the company's expansive data center and global IP network footprint. Examples of this include MCI's fully-managed On-Demand Application Service, which was launched earlier this month. Also in development for release later this year are disk-to-disk back-up and restore services, utility storage offerings and a bi-directional ticketing service.

"As the industry moves to an on-demand or consumption-based model, MCI is ideally positioned to lead this market," added Gofus. "With our ability to transparently bring together our IP infrastructure and the know-how to deliver innovative, IP-based services, MCI is helping businesses achieve IP transformation at their own pace."
